Kevin Feige Confirms ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Was The Final Avengers Film
In an unfortunate development for MCU fans, it has been announced by the man in charge that the Avengers are no more, as Kevin Feige confirms Avengers: Endgame is the final Avengers film.
More than a decade ago, Iron Man established the MCU as we know it; Robert Downey Jr.’s iconic take as Tony Stark began the first in more than 25 films in the incredibly ambitious cinematic universe based around Marvel comic properties.
That first Iron Man film was joined by films based around the characters of Captain America and Thor, and the foundation was being set to craft a universe in which these characters would actually interact.
That endeavor reached a fever pitch in 2012 when Marvel Studios created The Avengers; the fruit of building the culmination of several different franchises to form an entirely new one.
A decade later, the entirety of the MCU is approaching what could be its second reimagination, as the conclusion of the Infinity Saga, combined with the death of Tony Stark and the retirement of Steve Rogers, has set forth a brand new Marvel Universe being established in its lauded Phase Four.
It appears, however, that that same reimaging doesn’t include an inheritor to the original MCU fan, as Marvel head Kevin Feige confirms Avengers: Endgame is the final Avengers film.
It was a quote revealed in the recently released Assembled: The Making of Eternals, in which Fiege is quoted as saying the following in regards to the MCU and the Avengers franchise specifically:
Marvel Studios and the Marvel Cinematic Universe is now past their tenth anniversary and with the release of the final Avengers movie, we’ve finally competed a 22-movie Infinity Saga.
It is a statement that caught a lot of fans off guard, and would point to a very uncertain future for the studio; one that would force the MCU to change its focus from the Avengers model of world-building to something completely different.
The idea isn’t entirely undoable, as Marvel is most likely eager to introduce the Fox-acquired properties such as the Fantastic Four and the X-Men, two Marvel teams that will fill a similar role that Avengers did for the MCUs first decade.
Only time will tell if we ever see a new incarnation of the Avengers on the big screen for the MCU, but many fans are hoping that the studio will eventually work to bring back a brand new version of the team in the future Phase.
