Sebastian Stan Says Captain America 4’s Sam Wilson Has “A Little Bit of Rocky,” In Him
The highly anticipated sequel film to Steve Rogers Captain America trilogy will see the first solo film of the newly crowned shield-bearer, and Bucky Barnes himself, Sebastian Stan, says Captain America 4’s Sam Wilson has “a little bit of Rocky” in him.
There are few Marvel characters as engrained and endeared into the audience as Steve Rogers well-developed Captain America.
Debuting with the very origins of the MCU, Chris Evans Captain America was defined by his embodiment of the American dream and his commitment to protecting the powerless.
With the conclusion of Steve Roger’s arc coming at the end of Avengers: Endgame; with the long-time veteran finally laying down the Shield, and embracing a simpler life alongside his one true love.
The ending of the iconic final film of Marvel Infinity Saga also saw the birth of the man tasked with inheriting the massive legacy of Rogers and the Captain America mantle, Sam Wilson.
Falcon and the Winter Soldier explored the character’s transition from the superhero known as Falcon, to the new Captain America, and ended with the promise that the character would be the focal point of his very own solo film; a continuation of the Captian America MCU saga, Captain America 4.
The co-star of the characters Disney+ series, Sebastion Stan recently spoke about the character’s upcoming solo movie, stating that Sam Wilson has “a little bit of Rocky” in him.
In an interview with Yahoo Entertainment writer Kevin Polowy, Stan stated, “I’m very excited for that movie and I think he’s going to be great. He’s going to add a whole different feel to that idea. It kind of reminds me a little bit of Rocky, in some ways.”
The Rocky that Stan is referring to is undoubtedly Rocky Balboa, one of the most iconic characters in film history, and the traditional underdog story.
For Stan to call Sam Wilson reminiscent of the iconic boxing film legend would indicate that the character will- likely due to the absence of superpowers- be the underdog of the MCU.
It will be his resilience, and perseverance, that defines Sam Wilson; and his Captain America should remain one of the most intriguing heroes moving forward for the MCU.
