Why Steven Grant is the Perfect Main Character for ‘Moon Knight’
The long-awaited MCU series has recently made its debut on Disney+ and brought with it some major changes to the source material; which leads us to the conclusion that Steven Grant is the perfect Main character for Moon Knight.
There are few Marvel characters that boast the level of enigmas and mystery as Marc Spector’s Moon Knight.
A violent vigilante clad in white is granted his powers by an Egyptian deity named Khonshu who utilizes that same vigilante to execute justice on the wrongdoing and defense the righteous.
The character has long been one of Marvel’s most underrated and intriguing, and the latest entry into the MCU captures those two qualities perfectly.
Yet, there was a very vocal minority of the fan base who disliked certain changes to the source material, most notably by changing which personality is in control, and the characteristic of those personalities.
After the first episode, however, we have come to the conclusion that Steven Grant is the perfect main character for Moon Knight
For many fans, Marc Spector is the primary personality of the Moon Knight character; after all, he is the former mercenary who brings to the character the capabilities in combat that make the Moon Knight so dangerous.
While, in the source material, Steven Grant is a wealthy investor who represents everything that Marc is not; he is stylish, he is successful, he is esteemed.
The Moon Knight series brings to life a different version of this character; a down on his luck, disheveled, cockney gift store clerk who is desperately trying to make sense of a life that he doesn’t know isn’t real.
What makes this version of Grant so perfect is how Moon Knight endears him to the audience; you care for Grant, he is innocent, and you want him to find peace and safety amidst this hellish journey against his own mental health.
One of the best parts of the premiere episode is how seemingly tenderly Marc seeks to protect Steven, and how the two operate with Steven acting in self-preservation from the trauma and danger the persons find when Marc takes over the form.
It is brilliantly executed, and with the dichotomy between the two- and Khonshu’s interaction wth both- Steven Grant is undoubtedly the best choice and interpretation of the Moon Knight’s central focus.
