‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Part 1’ Pushed Back to 2023; Part 2 Now Slated for Early 2024
The highly anticipated and the long-awaited sequel to one of the greatest comic book movies ever made will, unfortunately, reach audiences later rather than sooner, as Sony has announced Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse Part 1 has been pushed back to 2023.
There are few comic book adaptations that have captured the imagination of fans in the way that Sony’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse did.
Acting as the origin story of the cinematic version of Miles Morales, the film explored the multiversal versions of Peter Parker that exist throughout an infinite number of alternate realities.
These varying versions of Spider-Man come together to save the multiverse and foil the nefarious plan of Wilson Fisk in an adventure that brings together some of the coolest Spider-man variants inspired by the comic books.
With the film being easily one of the most beloved Spider-Man films of all time, it’s safe to say that fans were anxiously awaiting news on the announced sequel film.
A trailer was released months ago, with the release dare promised to be in late 2022, something that is unfortunately not the case anymore, as Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse Part 1 has been pushed back to 2023.
Reported via Deadline, Sony has made some changes to their release schedule prior to their presentation at CinemaCon this week; announcing the release dates of several of their projects amidst the massive news of the delay.
The film was moved from its originally announces October 7th, 2022 release date to June 2nd, 2023; a schedule change that will then move the release date for the inevitable sequel film.
Deadline writes that the delay in Part 1 has implications for the assumed Part 2, stating, “Meanwhile, the pics sequel, Spider-Man: ACross the Spider-Verse Part II, is dated for March 29, 2024.
It is interesting that Sony has decided to push back the film, as it currently stands as one of its most successful films, based around a character that has proven to be one of the most popular in film today.
Hopefully, the delay only means that more focus will be placed on what is easily one of the highly anticipated films of 2023.
