MarvelBlog News for July 25th, 2026
We just got more MarvelBlog News this past week than in the previous six months.
There’s so much to cover, so let’s get started on all the highlights.
The Doomsday Trailer Arrives

Last December, Marvel rolled the dice on an ambitious marketing approach.
Rather than releasing a single teaser, Marvel pieced together at least four.

At the time, rumors persisted that up to seven existed, but we only saw those four.
Each one highlighted a single Marvel character or group, starting with Steve Rogers and then Thor.

The idea centered on building intrigue gradually throughout the holiday season.
Unfortunately, Marvel attached every trailer to Avatar: Fire & Ash.

That film earned $800 million less than its predecessor, Avatar: The Way of Water, and may have killed the Avatar franchise.
So, Marvel faced a point of diminishing returns with its quixotic campaign.

Thus, the company reached an inflection point the other day.
Marvel introduced the first full-length trailer for Avengers: Doomsday. Here it is:
I’ll also encourage you to watch Screen Crush gush over the clip’s Easter Eggs:
I want you to see that to remind you of something you may have forgotten.

Every Avengers movie is a VERY big deal, despite everything happening with the franchise.
We may be jaded about the project after discussing it for 18 months.

Photo: Marvel
That’s because we’re too deep into the process. Some people had no idea this film was happening.
I know this because I’m part of a 30-year-old movie community.

A few of these VERY passionate movie fans were like, “I forgot this movie existed.”
Some people have lost all interest in the MCU and stopped watching their films.

Yes, I know that’s hard to read, but it is the reality of the situation.
Marvel’s job right now centers on showing these casuals why they should care.
A Strong Start, But…

Photo: Marvel
So, did Marvel do its job? Well, the early metrics emphatically indicate yes.
More than 503 million fans watched the Avengers: Doomsday trailer on its first day.

Photo: Marvel
That’s a terrific total, although I’m so paranoid about the brand right now that I feel the need to add something.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day easily bested that amount with 719 million views.

Photo: Marvel
I consider that an accurate evaluation of the current popularity of Spider-Man vs. The Avengers.
For this reason, I’m not confident Avengers: Doomsday will match Avengers: Endgame.

Photo: Marvel
Honestly, it may not even come close, at least based on these numbers.
I often describe Avengers: Endgame as one of one at the box office, based on the data.

Photo: Marvel
That film’s opening weekend is the biggest of all time…by roughly 37 percent.
It was also the number one film in global box office for a time before Avatar reclaimed its throne.
Understanding the Stakes

Honestly, the fact that the new trailer only finished second is a sign of the times.
The Avengers and the MCU have undeniably slipped in reputation since 2019.

Still, the early signs for Avengers: Doomsday are incredibly encouraging.
According to Variety, the movie’s first-day ticket sales surpassed $16.5 million.

Photo: Marvel
This seems like a good time to mention that only 1,000 theaters offered bookings on day one.
Disney limited the listings to theaters capable of meeting the “Infinity Vision” standards.

Photo: Marvel
Personally, when I tried to buy tickets that day, my screening was already 80 percent full.
Importantly, I wasn’t going at what’s historically a popular movie-going hour.

Photo: Marvel
Also, tickets had only been on sale for two hours by that point. So, yeah.
Avengers: Doomsday appears certain to open north of $250 million.

Photo: Marvel
Given the reported $400 million budget and $300 million in marketing costs, it NEEDS to do that.
In fact, the movie needs to earn a minimum of $1.5 billion to be a success.

Photo: Marvel
Avatar: Fire & Ash didn’t reach that total, which must worry Disney/Marvel.
On the plus side, the early reception to this trailer has been decidedly positive.

Avengers: Doomsday is obviously THE topic. So, we’ll have more to say about it over the next four months.
Marvel Miscellany

Photo: Marvel
I’m now going to cram several big stories together since Doomsday takes up all the oxygen.
Ryan Reynolds has confirmed a Deadpool sequel, although he didn’t mention Wolverine.

Speculation has centered on pairing Deadpool with other X-Men in the next film.
For his part, Reynolds remained largely noncommittal about what’s next.

His actual quotes included, “There’s stuff upcoming,” and “It’s going to be great.”
Read into that what you will. Alas, the news isn’t quite so good on the Blade front.

Photo: Blade
In fact, Blade sounds like a dead project. Kevin Feige described it as one of his biggest failures.
Notably, he talked about the film in the past tense, making it hard to be optimistic.

Until someone says otherwise, you should consider Blade off the table.
Disney also confirmed that Nova isn’t just back but a go movie written by Michael Waldron.

He’s the creator of Loki, which makes this a very exciting project.
Then again, we were all once hopeful about Blade, too. So, we’ll have to wait and see…

Still, Waldron’s presence goes a long way in making Nova look like a MAJOR project.
On the Sony side, we got the final trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
I’m seeing the film on Thursday and legitimately cannot wait.

If you don’t have tickets, you may be out of luck, as it’s tracking for a massive opening.
Speaking of which, if you haven’t bought your Avengers: Doomsday tickets yet, you need to do so.

Otherwise, you WILL get sold out for opening weekend and likely be spoiled.
Save yourself that unwelcome fate by booking asap. Enjoy Comic-Con, everyone!
