‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ is Already the Third Highest Grossing Film of the Year

Following an incredibly successful opening weekend, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is already the third highest-grossing film of the year.

There are few movies that approach their theatrical release with the level of anticipated, and expectation, surrounding the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe entry.

Primed to conclude the multiversal story arc that has been a focal point of the MCU’s lauded Phase Four, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was poised to be a film that delivered what is Marvels most mind-bending adventure to date.

Although the film may be an imperfect masterpiece, it is clear that fans are rushing to theaters to take in this Sam Raimi-helmed Marvel adventure, as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is already the third highest-grossing film of the year.

Yeah, you read that right.

Not three days into its 45-day theatrical release window, the Doctor Strange sequel is already competing with every 2022 release, as it’s earned enough to place it among the year’s most successful.

The movie boasts an opening box office of $450 Million globally, which Box Office Mojo has ranked as not only the third-best of the year- but also the fourth-best in the Marvel Cinematic Universes history.

The total already doubles the opening weekend of one of the biggest films of the year, The Batman, and is likely to surpass it convincingly within its first week.

The biggest question that faces the film is the uncertainty of how much it will actually be able to gross in its entire theatrical run.

With the record-breaking Spider-Man: No Way Home firmly establishing itself as one of the most successful MCU entries ever, there is some debate as to if Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness could follow suit as the next billion-dollar MCU film.

Although it is certainly a possibility, it is way too early to project that kind of success for the film; as only time will tell where it stacks up to the vast MCU pantheon.
