Dave Bautista Reflects on End of Journey Saying Goodbye to Drax
The Guardians of The Galaxy Volume 3 is shaping up to be an emotional end to a tremendous journey. Now Dave Bautista is saying his own goodbyes to his character Drax.
Drax was one of the initial members of the first Guardians of the Galaxy team with Bautista playing the character in both films in addition to having a significant role in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
In a somber Instagram post, Dave Bautista reflected on his journey as Drax the Destroyer, lamenting how filming seemed to fly by ending suddenly. Bautista also remarked how the films changed his life, with earlier interviews admitting that he was quite broke before the Drax role.
The Guardians were perhaps the first team in the MCU that lacked the familiarity placed in other live-action Marvel teams. Teams such as The Avengers and The X-Men had been ingrained into pop culture, whereas the Guardians represented a greater risk with the unknown.

Even without the mainstream appeal, audiences fell in love with the quirky ragtag group of characters. Bautista’s imposing physic and demeanor gave Drax a menacing appearance that misdirected from his honorable aloof personality.
Like many other actors in the MCU, Bautista’s characterization of the character has now become synonymous with Drax himself. While Drax appeared to hold a much more serious tone in the comics, Bautista gave a certain levity to the character while maintaining his tragic background.
Dave Bautista isn’t the only Guardians cast member to admit their sadness at the film’s potentially ending. Gamora actress Zoe Saldana spoke of the bittersweet end while praising the cast for creating something great.
James Gunn has been candid in the fact that this will be the last time that people will see this Guardian’s team. While many have picked apart his words to mean the end of only this iteration of the team, it is still incredibly saddening to see this loveable bunch split ways.
Whichever way the future of this series plays out, all of us fans are incredibly thankful for the three films will we get with these characters. Seeing them grow from a ragtag team to a family that loves each other has been incredible to watch.
We cannot wait to see Guardians of The Galaxy Volume 3! And we are incredibly sad to see the end of this Guardians team!
