Marvel Legends Retro Collection Wave 7 Pre-Orders Now Available!
Marvel Legends are one of Hasbro’s most successful toy lines, created for the avid child at play or the collector. Now the addition of the Marvel Legends Retro Collection allows fans to own figures that mirror toys of old!
The Retro Collection is a series of 3.75-inch figures in which characters are taken and remade into the vintage style of Kenner action figures that permeated stores during the 1980s. These figures throw a nod to the work that Kenner toys did in creating toys for children and allow for older collectors to reminiscence on toys they grew up with.
In Wave 7 four new figures will be released including Firestar, Moon Knight, Nova, and a new Spider-man! As mentioned each figure stands at around 3.75 inches and is done in a simple vintage style with limited articulation. One of the best aspects of the figure is the throwback packaging that mirrors the Kenner packaging of old.
The first figure is that of Spider-man’s close ally Firestar! Firestar is done in a simple yellow with a bright red mask and fiery red hair. This Firestar is almost a direct replica of Firestar’s appearance in Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, the television series that Firestar was originally created for.
The next figure and my personal favorite among the four are that of Marvel hero Nova! Nova was a man named Richard Rider who was chosen to become the last remaining centurion for the Nova Corps! This appearance bares a great deal of resemblance to Nova’s original design in Nova #1 (1976).
The figure is done in a simple blue and yellow, keeping the simplicity of the classic Kenner figures. Nova has three star-like emblems on his chest, and the color scheme matches up perfectly with Nova’s original color scheme way back in 1976.
While the new Disney+ series recently finished the first season, Moon Knight is now getting an awesome Retro collection figure. The figure is simplistic as Moon Knight is adorned in all white with his head clad in black and two piercing red eyes.
This appearance of Moon Knight seems to be based on Moon Knight’s first solo run in Moon Knight #1 (1980). Moon Knight’s first solo appearance kept the simplicity just like the figure, a stark contrast from Moon Knight’s mummified wrapping that appeared in the Disney+ show.
The final figure in wave 7 is that of the Amazing Fantasy Spider-Man! This version of Spidey holds a different color scheme than the usual Spider-Man red and blue, with the blue replaced by black. Additionally, webs are attached from Spider-Man’s torso to his arms, giving Spidey a sort of Spider web-gliding suit.
The unique aspect of this figure is that it is based on Spider-Man’s first-ever appearance in Amazing Fantasy Volume 1 #15 (1962). The color palette and connecting webs all mirror Spidey’s first-ever appearance, with the special vintage Kenner packaging, giving the feel of a true vintage figure.
