Chris Hemsworth Admits Being Bored by Thor 2
With the highly anticipated Thor: Love and Thunder arriving in just about a month, and the film’s eponymous character set for his fourth solo film; star Chris Hemsworth admits to being bored by Thor 2.
There is no doubt about the impact and adoration from fans that have been bestowed upon Chris Hemsworth for his performances as Marvel’s resident god of thunder, Thor.
It was a character that had a long and winding road to that very adoration from fans but is now in a position to have one of the most successful films of 2022 in what will be his fourth solo film; making him the only Marvel character to have four solo films.
Thor: Love and Thunder represent a revitalization for the character, with Thor: Ragnarok marking his rebirth at the hands of visionary director Taika Waititit, and an energized- and more involved- Chris Hemsworth.
What is all the more interesting is that it was that rebirth that took place following what was probably the poorest reviewed Marvel movie to this day; a film that many fans point to as the lowest low for the Studio, Thor: The Dark World.
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair (reported by CBR.com), Chris Hemsworth admits to being bored by his work in Thor 2; something that adds a lot of intrigue when considering all that he’s done since then.
Hemsworth stated, “I wasn’t stoked with that Id done in Thor 2. I was a little disappointed in what I’d done, I didn’t think I grew the character in any way, I didn’t think I showed an audience something unexpected and different.”
The actor added, “And then when [Thor: Ragnarok] came along, out of my own frustration of what I had done- and this is not on any other director or anyone, this was my own performance- I really wanted to break the mold.”
Hemsworth continued, “And I said this to Taika and I think the conversation we had was, I said, ‘I’m really bored of Thor,’ and he said, ‘Yeah, I’m really bored of Thor, too.’ And then we decided not to be bored and any time that feeling came into play, we’d go in a different direction.”
It is fascinating to hear, and it speaks to the success that the duo has been able to accomplish in their two films together, in what we hope will continue with future Thor films.
