James Gunn Talks Continued Relationship with Marvel
The footage and updates given on the impending Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 have renewed fan excitement over the final film in the franchise, and with it being potentially his final outing, director James Gunn talks about his continued relationship with Marvel.
If you were to compile a list of the most important directors in the history and expansion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, you wouldn’t get very far before you reached the name, James Gunn.
He has been one of the most creative and inventive visionaries that Marvel Studios has ever collaborated with, and his work on the Guardians of the Galaxy Franchise has been some of the most consistently excellent content that the MCU has developed.
It is through those first two films that the entire cosmic realm of the Marvel Cinematic Universe was born, and it is tough Gunn’s tremendous talent and willingness to push the envelope that this sector of the MCU feels so brand new and interesting.
His talent, humor, and aesthetic permeate throughout various Marvel projects, and one could argue that his work on the original Guardians film was instrumental in granting Marvel the bravery to tackle projects like Thor: Ragnarok and Avenger: Infinity War the way that they did.
With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 setting up to be the concluding installment of that trilogy, there are many who wonder whether or not Gunn could still be a part of the MCU moving forward; with his influence, insight, and experience as priceless assets to the universe moving forward.
In a recent interview with MTV, James Gunn spoke about his continuous relationship with Marvel, and how he has really never stopped pitching MCU architect Kevin Fiege’s ideas to push the MCU forward.
Gunn stated, “I’m so busy like I’m doing so many things. If I could tell you the number of things I’ve pitched [Marvel Studios President] Kevin Feige that I just then [go onto] something else. I sent him a text the other day, like, ‘You should take this character and do something with them.’ We’ll see if he does it.”

It is interesting to note that the two have this kind of relationship, and we can only hope that Gunn remains involved, in some capacity, in the MCU moving forward.
