Xochitl Gomez Talks About Major Reshoot Change in ‘Doctor Strange 2’
It was a film that certainly reached some tremendous heights, and is easily one of the more unique films in the MCU, but it may have looked a lot different, as America Chavez herself, Xochitl Gomez, talks about a major reshoot change in Doctor Strange 2.
The movie had long been one of the most exciting of the Marvel Cinematic Universes Phase Four slate, as it was set to bookend the multiversal narrative that was first established in Loki and introduce a new adventure through alternate reality featuring some of Marvel’s strongest characters.
Sam Raimi made his epic return to the world of comic book films as he certainly delivered on the madness, bringing to life a story that delved deep into the vast alternate realities that lay beyond the comprehension of our heroes, and crafted a Marvel film unlike any other.
It turns out, however, that the film went through some very interesting alterations in its development, eventually growing into the story that reached theaters earlier this summer; but according to America Chavez herself, Xochitl Gomez, there was one major reshoot change that happened in Doctor Strange 2
Speaking to Slash Film, Gomez stated, “The main thing about Marvel is that they do test screenings so that they can get the movie to be what fans want, make them be what Marvel movies are. We did lots of changes for that reshoot, it was pretty insane.”
Gomez added, “Lots of work, but it was really fun and it was a challenge, but it was also really fun to do wirework again of the stuff that I already had done, to do it in a different style with different intentions and stuff.”
Speaking of the biggest change, the actress noted, “One main thing that got changed is that Defender Strange was actually saving me at the beginning and it was a turning point, that when he died it was me being heartbroken over the fact that someone who cared and was protecting me had passed away.”
Then, when we did reshoots it was the main drastic change that Defender Strange was actually betraying me and trying to take my power away from me.” Gomez stated, “It’s a completely different perspective on her and her trust issues.”
Reshoots have long been a staple in the Marvel movie process, and it is interesting to note how one very minor change, can alter the entire course of the narrative.
