There are few characters in the history of Marvel comics who have had a faster rise from creation to fan-favorite status than Kamala Khan.
Created as a Muslim-American teenager who is completely transfixed by the Marvel universe that she lives in, to becoming a superhero that is working alongside some of her favorite heroes, Kamala is living every comic book fan’s greatest dream.
It was her charming and magnetic personality, and her relatable backstory, that took this young character with a very specific backstory and made her relatable to everyone who understood what it was like to be completely in love with this world of heroes.
Kamala Khan made her long-awaited MCU debut in the summer Disney+ series in a project that brilliantly brought to life all that makes her incredible and unique, and wrapped it in a youthful and creative series that was among the best Marvel had ever done.
To make things even more interesting, the final episode revealed an alteration to the character’s origin, instead opting to make her the first mutated individual ever shown in the Marvel Cinematic Universe; in a recent interview, the star of the series discussed where that story could go next.
Speaking to New Rockstars’ Erik Voss, Ms. Marvel star Iman Vellani talked about MCU mutants and the impending arrival of Namor, a character traditionally known in the source material as the very first mutant.
when asked what she wanted to see next from the MCU’s mutants as a fan, Vellani stated, “Oh. God, I don’t even know. We didn’t even know that scene was even going to make the cut. We shot it not knowing if it was going to happen.”
Vellani added, “Like, I got sent that script before reshoots for our show started and I was treating out, emailing everyone, texting everyone in all caps. I was like, ‘Thi is happening? Please tell me I’m a mutant.'”
“So, I don’t know what their plans are. I would love to see just more mutants pop up…” Vellani concluded, “You know, Namor’s coming. Just a lot of people established as mutants and then eventually we get some sort of X-Men team up together. That’d be awesome.”
We absolutely agree with Iman and concur that Namor could be the next stepping stone for MArvel to arrive at a future in which Mutants begin to be more prevalent.
