Rosario Dawson Backtracks on Punisher News
It was an announcement that certainly brought excitement from the fanbase, but it seems as though it may have been premature- or just not entirely accurate in the first place, as Daredevil star Rosario Dawson has backtracked on her recently shared Punisher news.
There are few characters, and projects, that have connected with audiences to the lengths that the Netflix collaborated series Daredevil had; as it was indeed an opportunity for the Marvel Universe to move in a brand new direction, and bring the MCU something completely brand new.
That series spawned an entire DefendersVerse of projects from both Marvel and Netflix; focusing on street-level characters who would benefit from the long-form nature of the series, like Matt Murdock, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and the subject in question for this story, Punisher.
It was perhaps the most violent series that Marvel had ever crafted, and took, the borderline problematic hero and set him within the confines of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as his terrifying form of justice was set against some of the most despicable characters of the MCU’s underworld.
With news that both Charlie Cox’s Murdock and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk would be making their returns to the Marvel Universe- following appearances in Phase four- there has been a lot of excitement about just who else could be making their appearance in the massive film franchise.
That anticipation was seemingly answered when a former Daredevil star took the stage at a recent comic-con event, assuring fans that Jon Bernthal and the character of Frank Castle would be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe; a statement that may have not been entirely true after all.
I can’t be trusted…!
Getting intel from fans during signings is iffy apparently.
My bad.
I get excited.
Confirmation is key when you’re told what you want to hear…— Rosario Dawson (@rosariodawson) August 8, 2022
Taking to Twitter following the recorded announcement, Rosario Dawson has backtracked on her statement regarding the character’s return, writing a post regarding the event, and ensuring fans that her source was not any official Marvel or Disney affiliate.
Dawson wrote, “I can’t be trusted…! Getting intel from fans during a signing is iffy apparently. My bad. I get excited. Confirmation is key when you are told what you want to hear…”
Although this development proved to not be true after all, we can only hope that Marvel Studios is still hard at work in bringing Frank Castle back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in some capacity in the future.
