Alex Ross Talks the Highly-Anticipated ‘Fantastic Four: Full Circle’
If you ask someone to name the best comic book artists in the history of the medium, you won’t get very far before you hear the name, Alex Ross.
He is an artist that has been dazzling the community for decades, with his signature realistic painting pieces bringing an artist to the industry that felt impossible before him.
With Ross, there was an elegance and a timelessness to these larger-than-life superheroes that we all so adore; and few artists captured that, and gave it life, the way that Ross did.
And now, the artist is turning his immense talents and creative brilliance into one of the most beloved collectives that Marvel comics has ever crafted; Marvel’s first family, the Fantastic Four.
In a recent interview with CBR, Alex Ross discussed the highly anticipated Fantastic Four: Full Circle, a book that fans have been clamoring for since its announcement.
Speaking of the project, Ross stated that, “This is the manifestation of a long-held desire to define a certain approach to the Fantastic Four book.”
” This also became the fullest test of my work done in the more traditional style of pen and ink with flat color.” Ross added, “The classic ’60s look of this group is something I wanted to communicate with a way of viewing that through a lens of realism.”

When asked about why focusing on the Fantastic Four, Ross noted, “The Fantastic Four’s dynamic was Marvel in a nutshell, the human idiosyncracies couple with dynamic art and inventive storytelling.”
Ross continued, “Most everything we love about Marvel and comics, in general, came from innovations [that] started from this book. The history of the original creators run on the book is the benchmark of quality I strive to live up to.”
Ross concluded, stating, “Being able to connect with some part of that original magic is the storytelling goal, but there is a more substantial need– to simply spend time living with these characters and immersing in their world.”
