‘Armor Wars’ Could be one of Marvel’s Most Heartbreaking Stories…
With the MCU approaching the end of its Phase Four slate, fans are looking ahead, and with so many projects on the horizon, we deconstruct why Armor Wars could be one of Marvel’s most heartbreaking stories.
There was an incredible amount of speculation from the fandom as Marvel approached its appearance at the massive D23 panel being held this past weekend.
With San Diego Comic-Con presenting a restructured Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans were expecting a look into the incoming Phase Five, and batch o stories that should firmly enter the Marvel Universe into the Multiverse Saga.
Stories like Secret Invasion and Werewolf by Night got trailers released, and so many other projects were explored with the cast and crew, as fans heard what could be coming in some of their most anticipated titles.
Of all that was discussed and announced, however, one thing has stuck out to us about the incoming slate of projects; Armor Wars could be one of Marvel’s most heartbreaking stories yet.
There was a little discussion surrounding the upcoming Armor Wars series, a project that is set to see Don Cheadle star front and center, reprising his role as James Rhodes; better known to MCU fans as War Machine.
Don Cheadle reveals some story details about the MCU's Armor Wars show.
"[Rhodey is] at a very different place in a way that is something that I can't talk about, but it's going to very surprising to a lot of people." https://t.co/swJzUgsVsG pic.twitter.com/o07wQ0mSfv

But it was a quote from Cheadle himself when talking to Screen Rant about the upcoming project, that reaffirmed just how devastating and emotional this project could be.
Cheadle stated, “[Rhodey is] at a very different place in a way that is something that I can’t talk about, but it’s going to be very surprising to a lot of people.”
There are a few ways to look at the quote, as Cheadle could be referring to the glimpse of Rhodey that was shown in the Secret Invasion trailer; where he seems to be a president of some kind.
But what could make this project the most heartbreaking is that Armor Wars will be the first MCU project tto truly give us a window into the grieving process of a character that was so close to Tony Stark.
Although plenty of projects have passed, Spider-Man: Far From Home was the only one that truly dealt with the death of Tony Stark on an emotional level.
No offense to Peter Parker, but James Rhodes’s closeness to Tony Stark will make his experience all the more raw, emotional, and heartbreaking.
Armor Wars will be the story of Rhodey’s fight to reclaim Starks technology, but it could also paint a beautifully devastating picture of one man coming to terms with the sacrificial death of his best friend.
