Marvel’s Disney+ Specials Could be Huge for the MCU
It is one of our most anticipated projects for this year, but it isn’t a series or a film, and it proves why Marvel’s Disney+ Specials could be massive for the MCU.
As is the cast every year for Marvel fans, there was a massive look into the future of the MCU through Kevin Feige’s presence at both San Diego Comic-Con and D23 this year.
Both events have been built into the very fabric of the MCU, being the setting for some of the biggest reveals of what’s to come for the Marvel Universe in the near future, and giving attendees an exclusive inside look into some of those incredibly exciting projects.
Whether it is theatrical releases or episodic series, there are always characters and worlds that are constantly being explored and unveiled to the Marvel faithful.
This year, however, there was one additional type of project that was center stage, as Werewolf by Night released a trailer that took our breath away, and showed that some of the most anticipated projects from the MCU could be something different entirely.
The project delivered a tease for a Halloween special on the Disney exclusive streaming platform that embraced the horror visuals of the 1930s and 1940s classic monster movies, with a black and white, ultra-violent, feel that brought the unique project to life.
It was that trailer that seemed to signify that Marvel’s Disney+ specials could be huge for the MCU, as they both allow the opportunity for Marvel to experiment, and they lower the stakes of what the project has to be.
The format is seemingly perfect for a character like Werewolf by Night, as he is a Marvel hero who may not warrant an entire film, or a series but can come alive in his own way in a project like this.
Or there is the rapidly approaching Guardians of the Galaxy: Holiday Special, which- although it will utilize characters we know and love- are given a unique platform to take those characters and tell a completely unique story.
