Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was Right to Change Namor
In less than a month, the long-awaited sequel to Black Panther will arrive in theaters and bring with it the introduction of one of Marvel’s longest-tenured characters, and with so many things different about the underwater king, we discuss why Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was right to change Namor.
There are few films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that are set to have fans as excited as the long-awaited sequel to the 2016 masterpiece.
The film is primed to pick up where the last one left off, but also touches on the real-life tragedy that occurred in between the two; the tragic passing of Chadwick Boseman, and thus, the tragic passing of Wakandan king T’Challa.
It is a film that is seemingly telling the story of a nation in mourning, but also a nation at war, as the project is set to pit the fictional world of Tolocan against Wakandans and an unknown world power that is clearly in the hunt.
One thing has been clearly apparent throughout the development of the film, and that is that this version of one of MArvel’s oldest characters is a very unique take on the creation; which leads us to discuss why Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was right to change Namor.
Namor has been present in the comic book universe for well over eight decades, and for that entire run, he was known as Namor the Submariner and heralded s the kind of the lost city of Atlantis.
The Black Panther sequel is scrapping Atlantis as a concept- a good idea considering there is already a comic book adaption that has brought that nation to life- and putting Talocan in its place; a Mayan-inspired civilization that is rooted in traditional indigenous Hispanic cultures.
With Namor being one of the comic book industry’s oldest characters, it was certainly time for him to change and using Tenoch Huerta and the phenomenal aesthetic that Ryan Coogler and company were able to develop, there is no doubt that this will be a welcome change when it’s all said and done.
