James Spader Will Reprise His Role as Ultron For Marvel’s Vision Series
James Spader is set to make his triumphant return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) when he reprises his role as Ultron in the upcoming Vision series.
While the project still lacks an official name, the series will focus on the white version of Vision introduced in WandaVision.
How We Got Here
For those who don’t remember, in Episode 8 of WandaVision, the second iteration of Vision, known as White Vision, was introduced. Created by S.W.O.R.D., White Vision is assigned the mission of entering Westview and eliminating Wanda.
However, a confrontation occurs between the new White Vision and the Vision created by Wanda’s magic. During their encounter, Wanda’s Vision transfers his memories into White Vision. Recalling his true identity, White Vision declares, “I am Vision,” before flying off.
While it initially looked like the upcoming series would be titled VisionQuest and overseen by WandaVision creator Jac Shaeffer, that did not end up being the case.
Instead, Shaeffer decided to focus on Agatha All Along. In her place, Star Trek: Picard showrunner Terry Matalas was brought aboard to run the Vision series.
Spader’s Big Return
Turning back to Spader, the Hollywood legend has not reprised his role as Ultron since his first appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Though the AI villain appeared in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, he was voiced by Ross Marquand.
As Ultron was instrumental in Vision’s creation, it makes sense that the popular villain will return in the upcoming Disney+ series. At this time, there is no official release date for the Vision series. Earlier this year, however, reports indicated it could premiere in 2026.
