Sebastian Stan Defends the Marvel Cinematic Universe: “Hard to Make a Good Movie Over and Over Again”
Sebastian Stan has heard all the criticism lobbed Marvel’s way in recent years, and he is sick of it.
Having starred as Bucky Barnes/The Winter Solider in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) since 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger, Stan is uniquely qualified to comment on the state of the franchise.
Despite the success of Deadpool & Wolverine, Marvel has continued to be a frequent target for online critics and even Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino, who have argued that the MCU’s success has had a detrimental effect on the movie business.
Sebastian Stan Defends Marvel
In a recent interview with Variety, however, Stan picked up his shield and defended Marvel.
“It’s become really convenient to pick on [Marvel films]. And that’s fine. Everyone’s got an opinion. But they’re a big part of what contributes to this business and allows us to have smaller movies as well.”
Expanding on the thought, Stan explained that blockbusters, like Marvel’s films, keep the Hollywood ecosystem afloat.
“This is an artery traveling through the system of this entire machinery that’s Hollywood. It feeds in so many more ways than people acknowledge.” He adds, “Sometimes I get protective of it because the intention is really [frickin] good. It’s just [really] hard to make a good movie over and over again.”
Marvel Is Back on Top
While the success of Deadpool & Wolverine has put much of the conversation surrounding Marvel’s future to bay, the daggers are still out.
Between Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the MCU and Stan’s recent comments, it’s good to see Marvel’s stars defending the franchise.
