Tom Holland Has Read the Script For ‘Spider-Man 4’ With Zendaya — Here Is His Verdict
Tom Holland has given an update on the long-awaited fourth installment in the Marvel Cinematic Unvirse’s (MCU) Spider-Man franchise.
The last we heard about the film, Marvel was eyeing Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton to helm the movie. Now, Holland has revealed (on the Rich Roll Podcast) that he and his girlfriend/Spider-Man co-star Zendaya have read an early draft of the film.
“We have a creative and we have a pitch and a draft, which is excellent,” Holland explained. “It needs work, but the writers are doing a great job. I read it three weeks ago and it really lit a fire in me. Zendaya and I sat down and read it together and we at times were bouncing around the living room like this is a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect.”
When Will ‘Spider-Man’ 4 Hit Theaters?
While it is no secret that a Spider-Man 4 is in development at Marvel Studios, it is unclear when the film could hit theaters.
With the Marvel multiverse set to come together for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, Marvel has grand plans in motion. In his interview, however, Holland seemed to indicate that we could see Peter Parker again sooner rather than later.
“One of the things is that, with Marvel, your film is a small cog in a large machine,” Holland explained. “That machine has got to keep running. You have to make sure you can fit into that timeline at the right time to benefit the bigger picture. That’s one of the challenges we’re facing. The time in which we need to get that done is a tall order but definitely achievable with the people we have working on it now.”
Everything Revolves Around ‘Avengers: Doomsday’
The timing of Spider-Man 4 will likely depend on its relationship to Avengers: Doomsday. With Holland reportedly taking a central role in the next Avengers adventure, Peter will have his hands full.
The question then, is whether or not Spider-Man 4 will be set between the events of Doomsday and Secret Wars, perhaps expanding the MCU’s multiversal story, or if it will be a Peter solo adventure set after the Avengers team up again.
For now, we will have to wait and see.
