Why Doesn’t ‘Agatha All Along’ Have a Post-Credit Scene?
Marvel fans were shocked to learn that Agatha All Along did not feature a post-credit scene. After all, over the last 16 years, we have been trained to sit through the credits of Marvel Studios’ productions with the expectation that a post-credit scene will provide a glimpse into the future.
Whether it was Nick Fury’s debut in the Iron Man post-credit scene or Thanos’s introduction following The Avengers, Marvel post-credit scenes have often featured some of the studio’s biggest surprises.
WandaVision, the series of which Agatha All Along is a spinoff, even featured a post-credit scene that showed Wanda studying the Darkhold, previewing the events of Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Marvel Did Not Want a Post-Credit Tag
In a recent interview with Variety, Agatha All Along (and WandaVision) creator Jac Schaeffer revealed that she originally had plans for a post-credit scene, but Marvel did not want one.
“That’s a Marvel decision,” Schaeffer said. “I know nothing more than that.”
According to the showrunner, there were numerous ideas for an Agatha tag.
“Yes, I wrote a number of tags, because you always do on every Marvel everything. I love writing tags. And I think some of my best writing is in the tags that were never made. I should have a little binder of my tags,” Schaeffer continued.
“They’re so fun to write, because you’re writing the promise without having to deliver on anything. They’re the best. But there are so many things that factor into those. And I was told that we weren’t going to do a tag on this show. That doesn’t affect my work, or my vision for the show.”
What Does the Decision Mean?
Marvel’s decision not to include a post-credit scene in Agatha is interesting. With Agatha and Billy setting off together in the show’s final scene to find Tommy and the Young Avengers clearly on the horizon, a post-credit tease seems natural.
However, the Marvel multiverse is set to come together for the events of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Both films promise to drastically reshape the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). It is possible, then, that Marvel simply does not want to give anything away.
Additionally, recent Disney+ series, including Loki Season 2 and Secret Invasion, have also been bereft of a post-credit scene. Perhaps then, the decision to omit one from Agatha was simply a creative decision.
The Story Will Continue
Regardless, the finale of Agatha All Along clearly laid the foundation for future stories featuring its titular witch and Billy Maximoff. Hopefully, we learn more about what Marvel has in store for characters soon.
