Hannah John-Kamen Says Audiences Will Meet a Very Different Ghost in ‘Thunderbolts*’
While next year’s Thunderbolts* will feature some of Marvel’s biggest stars, including Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes, Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, and even the mysterious Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dryfuss), the film is also set to continue the story and fill in the blanks, of some of the MCU’s more overlooked characters.
There is perhaps no better example of this than the inclusion of Hannah John-Kamen’s Ghost.
Who Is Ghost?
Introduced in Ant-Man and the Wasp, Ava Starr/Ghost was a reluctant villain who gained the ability to render herself intangible and generate power after a quantum accident that killed her parents.
Realizing the potential of the young girl’s powers, S.H.I.E.L.D. enlisted her as an operative under the name Ghost.
Eventually, however, Starr and Bill Foster realized that she was slowly dying due to a lack of quantum energy. This not only made her powers unpredictable, but it caused her immense pain.
By the end of Ant-Man and the Wasp, Janet Van Dyne was able to transfer some of her quantum energy into Starr, stabilizing her condition.
A Very Different Eva Starr Will Appear in Thunderbolts*
While the events of Ghost’s life between Ant-Man and the Wasp and Thunderbolts* remain unclear, Hannah John-Kamen is teasing that we will see a very different Eva Starr in the upcoming film.
“The last time you saw her, she was volcanic. She was flickering to death and she was in pain. Now she has control of that,” John-Kamen explained to The Manila Times.
“With that, there’s a calm, and there’s a decisiveness, and there’s a powerful breath and beat in that. So yes, you’ll see a different Ghost.”
As Thunderbolts* features a true ensemble cast, it remains to be seen how much time the film can devote to each individual member of the new team. What is clear, however, is that Marvel is committed to fleshing out the story of some of its more overlooked characters.
I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Ghost.
