Marvel’s Head of Streaming Discusses the Future of Ms. Marvel
While The Marvels was clearly not the box office success that many had hoped for, the film did allow Marvel to continue the story of Kamala Khan on the big screen.
Iman Vellani burst onto the scene with her portrayal of Kamala Khan in the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel. After tackling her own adventure that led to the revelation that she was a mutant, Kamala’s story continued in theaters, where the young superhero got to team up with her hero, Captain Marvel, for an intergalactic adventure.
Among the many problems that The Marvels had, Vellani’s performance as the awe-struck Khan was not one of them. Even after the disappointing box office reception to the film, the actress is still clearly one of Marvel’s brightest stars.
Vellani Has Been Promised That Ms. Marvel Will Return
However, updates on Ms. Marvel’s future have been scarce in the aftermath of The Marvels.
Last March, Vellani told Polygon that she had been “assured” that Marvel still had plans for Ms. Marvel even after the failure of The Marvels.
“I have been assured,” she said. “So that feels good, but there was no more assurance than that. [laugh] They give me breadcrumbs, and I try and make a meal out of it.”
Now, a Marvel executive has weighed in.
Brad Winderbaum Confirms That Marvel Has Plans For Kamala
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Brad Winderbaum, Marvel’s Head of Streaming, teased that the studio still has big plans for Ms. Marvel.
“I love Iman. She’s incredible. I love that character,” he said.
“I will tell you that she’s certainly a big part of the MCU to me. Ms. Marvel is a really important show to us, and without going into great detail, because I don’t want to spoil anything, she is top of mind. So it’s going to be exciting to see where she pops up next.”
Winderbaum’s quote is particularly interesting because it sounds like Kamala Khan’s next adventure (outside of her presumed appearance in Avengers: Doomsday) will take place on streaming.
Will We See a ‘Ms. Marvel’ Season 2?
With rumors continuing to swirl that Marvel will assemble the Young Avengers on streaming, Winderbaum’s quote makes sense.
Additionally, there is always the possibility that the studio will revive Ms. Marvel for a second season.
While we may have to wait a while to hear what Marvel has in store for Iman Vellani, fans can find solace in the fact that Ms. Marvel will return.
