Here’s Everything Coming to Marvel in 2025
As always, the Marvel Cinematic Universe will unleash a new wave of content on happy fans this year.
The difference in 2025 is that Sony’s Spider-Man Universe is taking the year off after a brutal 2024.
Allegedly, Spider-Noir could come out this year, but it hasn’t even finished filming yet.
Given all of Sony’s recent struggles, it’s up for debate whether this title keeps its 2025 date.
So, we’ll focus solely on the Disney side of the table this time.
Here’s everything coming to Marvel in 2025.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man – January 29th
We’re less than two weeks away from the release of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man on Disney+.
This is a series I’ve previously mentioned as highly in demand in my household.
My wife is rarely passionate about comic books – other than Batman – but there’s one she has always raved about.
Sean McKeever’s Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane is a kawaii take on superheroes and teen romance.
To an extent, it’s the Riverdale of comic books – Yes, I know that’s Archie – or maybe Dawson’s Creek if you’re old enough to remember.
This is teen melodrama with a side of tingly Spider-Sense…and not the teen hormone kind, although there’s some of that, too.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man isn’t technically an adaptation of McKeever’s work, but it plays in the same sandbox.
We meet teenage Peter Park and watch him struggle as he juggles his newfound superpowers while trying to be a normal teen.
This one’s a much gentler take on Peter Parker than we see in the movies, even with Tom Holland in the role.
So, there’s a bit of indoctrination here as Disney+ tries to entice a new generation of kids to love Spider-Man.
Still, the early buzz is glowing, and we know we’ll get multiple seasons of this story.
Also, please be aware that it’s Norman Osborne, not Tony Stark, who serves as Parker’s mentor here.
I presume that storyline will end in tears, and I’m here for it.
Captain America: Brave New World – February 14th
In the summer of 2024, Marvel released a movie that truly couldn’t miss.
Our sister site, MickeyBlog, had me on its podcast to discuss the 2024 film releases, and I felt strongly about this one.
With Ryan Reynolds marketing the film and Hugh Jackman returning as Wolverine, Deadpool 3 was going to sell tickets.
Marvel’s 2025 slate lacks that surefire hit, although executives have expressed confidence in all three titles.
The appeal of Captain America: Brave New World is twofold.
First, this is Anthony Mackie’s first film as Captain America, although he did play the character in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
In that Disney+ series, Sam Wilson earned Steve Rogers’ shield, which the former Captain America had given to him anyway.
Wilson felt unworthy until he proved himself, which he did by stopping a terrorist cell.
Now, Wilson faces a different enemy: The President of the United States as portrayed by living legend Harrison Ford.
So, the villain in this story is one of the most recognizable protagonists in movie history. He’s Han Solo and Indiana Jones!
The presence of Ford elevates Wilson as the person trying to stop the President or, more accurately, his other half, the Red Hulk.
The ads lean heavily into the Red Hulk aspect while leaving out the story almost entirely.
That worries me about the film’s quality, or maybe I should say a fear over its complexity appealing to modern audiences.
“Stop Hulk from smashing” is a simpler premise than political subterfuge.
Marvel has great expectations for this film, but it’s far from a slam dunk.
Tracking suggests an opening weekend in the $80-$100 million range.
So, it could actually throw under Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but that’s not a shocker.
Please remember that no matter how Marvel markets the film, this is a reboot. What matters most is that it’s good.
Thunderbolts* — May 2nd
Soon after Brave New World, Marvel will release what it’s internally termed the companion piece.
Brave New World focuses on the heroic Sam Wilson. Thunderbolts* takes a different approach by embracing villainy.
Technically, I guess I should say the anti-heroes of the MCU, although several of them were previous antagonists.
We have Bucky Barnes, the Winter Soldier, Ghost from the Ant-Man franchise, and Yelena Belova, among others.
This film also features U.S. Agent, the All-American hero who devolved into a murderer in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
More importantly, this movie co-stars “Bob” aka The Sentry.
Imagine an unstable version of Superman, and you get the drift.
The Sentry is arguably the most powerful being in the entirety of Marvel, which makes his introduction to the MCU a seminal moment.
I don’t know what this says about my personality, but I feel better about Thunderbolts’ prospects than I do about Brave New World.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps – July 25th
Marvel has stated that it’ll release no more than three films a year from now on.
Brave New World experienced a delay that pushed it from 2024, which is the real reason we’re getting three titles in 2025.
The one that interests me the most as a fan is The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which tells the story of Marvel’s First Family.
Reed and Sue Richards, the Thing, and Johnny Storm comprise this superhero team we’ve never seen in the MCU before now.
Obviously, there have been three high-profile Fantastic Four films in the past (and an obscure Roger Corman flick), but this is different.
Now, the First Family will have the collective weight of Marvel behind it.
The setting of this film is an alternate universe, not one from the so-called Sacred Timeline.
So, Marvel has kept its storyline options open as it introduces the Richards/Storm family to the world.
Eyes of Wakanda – August 6th
Marvel confirmed a Wakanda animated series in *checks notes* 2021. It’s been a minute.
After that long a delay, you may worry about the quality of this series. And I don’t blame you.
I won’t even reassure you, as Marvel cut the episode order to four, suggesting a lack of faith in the premise.
Notably, Ryan Coogler serves as an executive producer on this series, and it’ll feature an Iron Fist as well.
No, the Iron Fist in question probably won’t be the one you’re thinking, but that’s a fun inclusion.
Overall, this seems like the product Marvel believes in the least, though.
Marvel Zombies October 3rd
Finally, we have the most anticipated arrival of Marvel Zombies, one of the most popular ideas from the comic books.
I’ve actually got two different Marvel Zombies books sitting on a bookshelf, and they’re both terrific.
MCU fans are familiar with the characters due to their appearance on Marvel’s What If…?
You’ll be thrilled to know that the Zombie Scarlet Witch apparently will appear in the series.
I presume she’ll serve as the final boss in a series featuring Awkwafina and Simu Liu as Katy and Shang-Chi.
Several other MCU luminaries will voice characters as well.
Marvel is billing this as a limited series, which means it may come to a finish.
Please remember that Marvel can always make more zombies, though. So, if it’s popular, we’ll get plenty more of it.
Okay, that’s everything coming to Marvel in 2025. Which titles excite you the most?
