Vin Diesel Says That a Groot ‘Planet X’ Movie Is Coming

While the future of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise remains clouded, it looks like we will see at least one member of the iconic team again.

Vin Diesel took to Instagram yesterday and revealed that a Planet X movie is in the works.

Giving fans an update on the state of his career, Diesel teased numerous upcoming projects including The Last Witch Hunter and a Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots film.

Then, he may have let a humongous cat out of the bag.

“Also, Disney wants their Planet X!” Diesel wrote. “Which some say is Marvel’s most anticipated movie, haha. The film where Groot returns to his home planet.”

What Is Planet X

For those who may not be up to speed on the Marvel comics, Planet X is the home of the Flora colossus, a race of aliens of which Groot is a member. As Diesel notes, a Planet X movie would see Groot return home and perhaps dive deeper in the hero’s past.

The film could be a way for Marvel to move the Guardians franchise forward without most of its principle stars.

Will the Guardians Return?

While rumors have persisted for years that a Planet X project could be in the works, there has been no indication that Marvel is developing a Groot-centric film.

Nevertheless, it is possible that Diesel, who has voiced Groot since the character’s debut in Guardians of the Galaxy, knows something that we don’t.

For now, it seems likely that the next time we see Groot will be either Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Infinity Wars. From there, perhaps Diesel’s bombshell will come true and it will be off to Planet X.
