MarvelBlog News for March 16th, 2025
Sadie Sink won’t be a stranger in Hollywood from now on.
The actress just scored the biggest role of her (adult) life. We’ll discuss it in MarvelBlog News.
Let the Speculation Begin

Chief Hopper.
I’ll presume you’ve watched Stranger Things because the odds of that are good.
Stranger Things is the most iconic series on Netflix, the most iconic streaming service.

While Squid Game has arguably surpassed Stranger Things as the title most associated with the service, that wasn’t always the case.
For many years, Stranger Things defined Netflix viewing, thanks to its dazzling debut in 2017.

Each season since then has elevated the production higher, and everyone who has joined the show has become famous.
As an example, Jonathan Quinn has already come and gone in Stranger Things.

His one-season story arc turned so many heads that Marvel cast him as Johnny Storm in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
Now, one of his castmates will (probably) join him (and the Red Guardian) in the MCU.

Deadline confirms that Sadie Sink will anchor the cast of Spider-Man 4, which aligns with recent rumors.
Remember how I’ve been saying that Sony didn’t intend for Zendaya to have a big presence in this project?

Now, we have confirmation that she won’t, which makes sense.
Let’s not forget that Doctor Strange cast a spell that undid the presence of Peter Parker in the MCU.

So, he’s still around, but nobody remembers him, including his beloved MJ.
And that opens the door for new stories with other Marvel characters.

That’s why everyone has been obsessed with the casting of Sadie Sink this week.
Sony gave no indication of who she might play, but the speculation has centered on three characters.

The first two are likely happening due to Sink’s distinctive hair color. She’s a redhead, which causes people to think Mutant-ly.
Is Sink the next X-Men member to join the MCU?
Probably Not

From a business perspective, I have no idea why Marvel and Disney would do that.
The introduction of the X-Men is an event fans have anticipated since 2019, the year Disney acquired Fox.

That was the only hold-up preventing Marvel from using the Mutants in its MCU stories.
So, we’ve waited six long years for this move. Why would Disney burn that on a Sony film? My guess is that they wouldn’t.

The only argument in favor of that move – other than storytelling possibilities – is a concession to the truth.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is easily the most successful Marvel movie since Avengers: Endgame.

The third Spider-Man film earned more than $550 million more than the third Deadpool movie.
Debuting the new Jean Grey – as played by Sadie Sink – in a Spider-Man movie possibly may get more eyeballs.

I even doubt that, though. The X-Men are their own draw, and that’s why my mind wandered to other characters.
Spider-Man was once friends with another redhead, a character named Firestar.

She co-starred in Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends, a 1981 television series not to be confused with the modern one on Disney+.
That show has something of a cult following and would be a fun little wink and a nod to Spidey’s history.

Realistically, the most reasonable possibilities are Black Cat and Gwen Stacy, though.
Once we overlook the hair color aspect of the conversation, Sony wants to build new characters.

Fans have been pleading for a Gwen Stacy standalone movie, and Sadie Sink would be casting for that.
She’d also work as Black Cat, a character Sony has been trying to give a movie for many years now.

So, who will Sadie Sink play in Spider-Man 4? Stay tuned to find out!

This was a calmer news week, as everyone fixated on Daredevil: Born Again.
Disney confirmed that 7.5 million people watched the show during its first five days on Disney+.
Technically, that makes it the most watched program on Disney+ this year, but 2025 is only ten weeks old.
More importantly, these numbers fall a bit behind Agatha All Along, a series that had more hype going in.
Daredevil: Born Again had negative buzz throughout its production, which it has fundamentally reversed this month.
So, I wouldn’t expect a huge dropoff in viewer ratings from here.

Speaking of Daredevil, the first three episodes have leaned hard into the impact of The Punisher as a character.
Now, Jon Bernthal has appeared at SXSW. During his talks, he mentioned that the Punisher one-off will be BLOODY.

On the Avengers: Secret Wars front, the Russo Brothers just. Keep. Talking.
Now, they’re telling people that the upcoming Avengers films will draw heavily on both versions of the Secret Wars story.

There was the original one from the 1980s and the one that came out a few years ago.
The Russos have made no secret of the fact that they’re sentimental about the 1980s run from their childhood.

However, they’re acutely aware that Jonathan Hickman’s story from a decade ago was masterful.
So, I think it’s safe to expect the Russos to draw the best ideas from both.

Finally, circling back to Spider-Man 4, actor Bokeem Woodbine is hinting that his Shocker character could return.
You may recall that after the first Shocker was disintegrated, Woodbine’s character, Herman Schultz, took over the role.

Shocker wound up webbed to a bus in the end, as Spider-Man stopped the crime. But the character isn’t dead…
