Kevin Feige Gives Fans Hope That Kingpin and Spider-Man Could Square Off
Vincent D’Onofrio grabbed headlines in 2024 when he revealed that Marvel Studios did not fully own the rights to Kingpin.
When discussing why he did not appear in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, D’Onofrio had this to say:
“I’m going to transparently say this: You know the whole Marvel-Sony thing, right?” D’Onofrio responded (via ComicBook).

“So there are characters, Marvel characters invented by Marvel, written by Marvel, that are caught in between Marvel and Sony. And so it takes a long time for them to figure out who is doing what.”
Subsequently, D’Onofrio also revealed that the confusing status of Kingpin’s rights has kept him from portraying Wilson Fisk in a Spider-Man film.

The Fans Want to See Kingpin vs. Spider-Man
With Jon Bernthal’s Punisher set to make the jump from the Daredevil universe to the big screen in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, fans have continued to hold out hope that D’Onofrio will eventually get the chance to square off with Tom Holland’s Peter Parker.

During a recent interview with Josh Horwitz, Kevin Feige was asked about the complicated rights surrounding Kingpin.

While the Marvel Studios president admitted that there are still some stipulations surrounding the character, he did not seem to think they would preclude Kingpin from appearing in an MCU Spider-Man film.
“They’re not. I mean, there are things to navigate like everything else, but we talked about all those things,” he said.
