MarvelBlog News for October 11th, 2026
Marvel comics are no longer $3.99, nor are they unlimited.
We’ll discuss them, Jocasta, and the ultimate box office crown in this week’s MarvelBlog News.
A Rough Week for Comic Book Fans

Whether you buy your comics digitally or at the local store, last week sucked for you.
At physical media stores, Marvel Comics just eliminated its cheapest option.

From now on, you’ll no longer pay $3.99 for a single issue of your favorite book.
On many top titles, you weren’t doing that anyway, at least not as of 2026.

Earlier this year, Marvel quietly raised the price of many of its best-selling titles.
The prices of these titles increased from $3.99 to $4.99 seemingly overnight.

Nobody made a big deal of it at the time, but that’s a 25 percent spike.
Fans underreacted because the change appeared to apply to big issues only.

Many of these same titles quickly returned to $3.99 pricing afterward.
Then, as we entered the summer, the $4.99 pricing returned, and that’s not even the worst part.

Many $3.99 titles disappeared from store shelves, leaving just a handful at that price.
Then, the total of “cheaper” comics dropped to a single title: Generation X-23.

With that comic book ending with the November issue, that’s it. We’re done.
All Marvel titles now cost $4.99, and it appears to be a permanent change.

Coincidentally or not, Marvel’s owner, The Walt Disney Company, just started its new fiscal year.
As a part of that switch, Disney announced price increases at theme parks and on streaming.

So, the timing appears suspect, and it’s not the only consideration here.
Marvel No Longer Unlimited

Have you purchased a physical Marvel comic book lately?
If so, did you notice that modest change to the redemption code?

Photo: Marvel
Marvel introduced a kind of countdown clock for these codes, one with a date.
The updates suggested January 1st, 2027, as an inflection point.

Now, we know why, and a lot of you aren’t going to like it at all.
Marvel will apparently stop allowing code redemptions on that date.

So, smoke ‘em if you got ‘em because they’re only going to last two more months.
I may be putting the cart before the horse a bit on this front, but it seems likely.

That’s especially true once I reveal to you the second half of this story.
Marvel Unlimited’s official site now says: “Shutting down soon.”

On December 7th, your one-stop shop for all your digital comics will close forever.
I can hear your screams of outrage from here, so please allow me to reassure you.

You won’t lose your Marvel Unlimited comic book collection per se.
While I’m aware of how the digital ownership fight is trending, all’s not lost yet.

A new app is coming at a different location, and you can import your content there.
Marvel indicates that your library and your reading history will transition to the new app.

So, I guess we should talk about that app, as I know you’re probably wondering.
The Webtoon Era

Photo: Marvel Comics
Early in 2026, Disney completed a previously announced transaction.
Disney now owns two percent of Webtoon Entertainment, a popular app among comic book fans.

I primarily use Webtoon for the Dungeon Crawler Carl comic book.
That’s merely a drop in the bucket compared to all the manga and comics available there.

Well, on November 15th, Webtoon will introduce the new Marvel Comics app.
This change will permanently end the Marvel Unlimited era…except for the pricing.

Photo: Marvel Comics
Marvel Comics (the app) will cost $69.99 a year, a familiar price to subscribers.
And the monthly fee remains $9.99 as well, so Disney has kept the Marvel Unlimited pricing…for now.

I don’t trust any of these companies when it comes to digital content, though.
This seems like a good time to mention the Ultimate tier, which costs $12.49/$99.99.

With this version of a subscription, you shorten the delay for new comics to one month.
The basic Marvel Comics generally has a three-month delay.

Early adopters can buy the “Founder Member” version of Ultimate for just $59.99.
So, I’d advise you to grab that one if you’re interested in the new app.

For its part, Webtoon promises a much more accessible and more intuitive app.
Based on my experiences reading Dungeon Crawler Carl, they’re right.

The Webtoon format isn’t perfect, but it’s better than Marvel Unlimited, imo.
Marvel Miscellany

We’re just a few days from the debut of Vision Quest, and new details have emerged.
Apparently, Jocasta will play an even bigger role than originally expected.

Photo: Marvel
In fact, early previewers are gushing about the performance of actress T’nia Miller.
So, I’m definitely looking forward to that, especially given Jocasta’s importance in the comics.

Photo: Marvel Studios
The character is technically Ultron’s wife, but she has also had a crush on Vision.
And while I doubt Marvel uses that idea, she’s also based on Janet Pym.

Image: Marvel
It’s the same idea as Vision being based on Simon Williams in the comics.
On an entirely different note, the amazing happened yet again.

I’d mentioned the possibility last week, and it happened right around the time the story posted.
Avengers: Endgame once again surpassed Avatar to become the biggest film ever.

Endgame holds the global box office title, while Spider-Man: Brand New Day just claimed the domestic throne.
Since those two films are also the owners of the top two box office weekends ever, it’s a clean sweep for Marvel.

Films based on Marvel comics now own all major box office records! It’s an incredible feat.
