What ‘Spider-Man 4’s’ Release Date Tells Us About the Film
After weeks of speculation, it is finally official, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will swing back into theaters on July 24, 2026.
The upcoming Spider-Man 4 (not the official title) will be directed by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton, making it the first installment in the franchise not to be helmed by Jon Watts.
Interestingly, the film’s July 2026 release date sandwiches the next Spidey story between Avengers Doomsday (May 1, 2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (May 7, 2027).
The decision to release the film between the Avengers epics has led to speculation that Spider-Man 4 will continue exploring the multiverse, perhaps even taking place on Battleworld.
Tom Holland Has Teased
In recent weeks, the traditionally loose-lipped Holland has spoken openly about the development of Spider-Man 4. During a recent appearance on the Rich Roll podcast, the actor revealed that he had read a script for the fourth Spider-Man film.
“We have a creative and we have a pitch and a draft, which is excellent,” Holland explained. “It needs work, but the writers are doing a great job. I read it three weeks ago and it really lit a fire in me. Zendaya and I sat down and read it together and we at times were bouncing around the living room like this is a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect.”
During the interview, Holland also noted that Spider-Man is just one cog in the larger Marvel machine. This could, once again, indicate that the film will be heavily influenced by the events of Avengers: Doomsday.
“One of the things is that, with Marvel, your film is a small cog in a large machine,” Holland explained. “That machine has got to keep running. You have to make sure you can fit into that timeline at the right time to benefit the bigger picture. That’s one of the challenges we’re facing. The time in which we need to get that done is a tall order but definitely achievable with the people we have working on it now.”
Filming on ‘Spider-Man 4’ Will Begin Next Year
The good news for Marvel fans is that we won’t have to wait long. During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live last week, Holland revealed that filming for Spider-Man 4 will begin next year.
“Next summer, we start shooting. Everything’s good to go — we’re nearly there,” Holland said. “Super exciting. I can’t wait!”
From the sounds of things, Spider-Man 4 is not facing the kind of production struggles that have plagued Marvel’s Blade or Daisy Ridley’s upcoming Star Wars film.
I, for once, can’t wait to see what Holland and Marvel have in store for Spider-Man next.
Spider-Man 4 will hit theaters on July 24, 2026.
