No longer set to open on July 18, DCA’s new land is now just “coming soon.”
Noticed first by Mice Chat and seconded by The Orange County Register (among others), Disney has delayed the grand opening of Marvel Avengers Campus in Disney California Adventure.
Avengers Campus is an entirely new land dedicated to discovering, recruiting and training the next generation of heroes at Disney California Adventure Park in Anaheim, California. Guests have the chance to witness Spider-Man swinging into action high above Avengers Campus with gravity-defying, acrobatic feats never seen before in a Disney theme park. (Disneyland Resort)
The grand opening of the new Marvel-themed land expected to open this summer at Disney California Adventure has been postponed due to the continuing coronavirus closure of the Anaheim theme park.
The previously announced July 18 opening date for the new Avengers Campus coming to Disney California Adventure has been delayed, according to Disney officials.
Disney’s two Anaheim theme parks, three hotels and outdoor shopping mall remain closed until further notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Disneyland’s original notice of closure stated, “While there is still much uncertainty with respect to the impacts of COVID-19, the safety and well-being of our guests and employees remain The Walt Disney Company’s top priority.

The immersive land also presents multiple heroic encounters with Avengers and their allies, like Iron Man, Black Widow, Black Panther and more. At Pym Test Kitchen, food scientists will utilize Ant-Man and The Wasp’s shrinking and growing technology to serve up perfectly sized snacks. (Disneyland Resort)
“As a result of this unprecedented pandemic and in line with direction provided by health experts and government officials, Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort will remain closed until further notice.”
Beyond the change from “July 18” to “coming soon” there is no official notice of the change on the official Disneyland or Disneyland PR sites.
Like many Disney/Marvel stories from 2019 and 2020, the Mickey Blog/Marvel Blog/Disney Buzz crew have been covering the would-be opening of Avengers Campus for some time.
And there’s just no doubt that The Walt Disney Company has done the right thing by closing down their properties and shuttering constructions and production.
But while there’s just too much true sorrow going around it’s hard to call up too many tears for the delay; pardon my French, but yet another delay to needed distraction “sucks.”
So, while we are at it, let’s take a look at all the great things slated to fill “Marvel Land” at Disneyland Resort.
