Happy Birthday, Marvel!
Marvel will celebrate its 81st birthday on August 31, 2020! To mark the occasion, Marvel will introduce new comics, apparel, videos, baking competitions and much more.
A History Worth Celebrating
Marvel Comics #1 was released on August 21, 1939. The issue introduced the world to early Marvel heroes, such as The Human Torch, the Angel, the Sub-Mariner, the Masked Raider, and Ka-Zar.
The comic itself served as inspiration for what would ultimately become the Marvel Universe. As the cover promises, “action,” “mystery” and “adventure” were the very beginning of all the stories yet to come.
Today, the Marvel Universe is filled with thousands of characters, along with the originals from this issue. Furthermore, new worlds, galaxies and realities have all been introduced. This interconnected universe has shaped pop culture for generations.
Kicking Off the Celebration
The first commemorative piece of art designed to celebrate Marvel’s 81st birthday has already been released. Comic book artist Ron Lim and colorist Israel Silva created a special, surprise variation of Miles Morales: Spider-Man #18. It will be available for purchase through comic book retailers beginning next week.
Moreover, fans of Lim’s birthday art will also be able to order limited-edition shirts and apparel beginning on August 31. These specially created pieces will feature Power Man, Nova, Bombshell, Spider-Man, Ironheart, Ms. Marvel, and Brawn. If you would like to purchase any of these items, they will be available in the Marvel Design Vault on Amazon, or via key retailers’ e-commerce sites.
Marvel will also release new and highlight existing Eat the Universe kitchen items from Box Lunch, birthday card and cake decorating accessories, and brand-new graphic tees by Junk Food.
