Chadwick Boseman Took a Pay Cut to Ensure Fair Compensation
Stories of Chadwick Boseman’s generosity continue to emerge as the world continues to mourn his loss. We have just learned that he took a pay cut to increase Sienna Miller’s salary for the film 21 Bridges.
Miller Reflects on Boseman’s Generosity
The news comes from Miller’s recent interview published by Empire. In the article, Miller shares several comments about how she came to co-star in the film.
“[Boseman] had been really active in trying to get me to do [the film]. He was a fan of my work, which was thrilling, because it was reciprocated from me to him, tenfold.”
“And because I was hesitant to go back to work … I said, ‘I’ll do it if I’m compensated in the right way.’ And Chadwick ended up donating some of his salary to get me to the number that I had asked for. He said that that was what I deserved to be paid.”
Miller decided share the story as a testament to the person Boseman was. He felt strongly that she should be compensated fairly for her role in the film and went to great lengths to ensure that happened.
A Perfect Pairing
Thanks to Boseman’s generosity, Miller and Boseman wound up playing a pair of detectives who team up to investigate the deaths of police officers in New York. In so doing, they undercover a massive conspiracy, thus unveiling the plot line of 21 Bridges.
The 2019 film also features actors such as J.K. Simons, Taylor Kitsch, Stephan James. Boseman also served as a producer.
Tributes Continue Rolling In
Tributes to the late Boseman continue to emerge from a vast array of people throughout the world. Many of his Black Panther co-stars have taken to social media to praise the actor for his professionalism, kindness and overarching compassion. Michael B. Jordan and Winston Duke’s tributes are two that stood out for many.
Black Panther director Rylan Coogler has also shared his thoughts on Boseman, whose illness he did not know about. He states:
“I noticed then that Chad was an anomaly. He was calm. Assured. Constantly studying. But also kind, comforting, had the warmest laugh in the world, and eyes that had seen much beyond his years, but could still sparkle like a child seeing something for the first time.”
Several of his Marvel bretheren, whom he co-starred beside in Captain America: Civil War, Infinity War and Endgame, have also shared touching comments. Mark Ruffalo, who plays the Hulk, has said the “tragedies amassing this year have only been made more profound” by Boseman’s death. Tom Holland, who plays Spiderman, called him a role model for millions around the world. Chris Hemsworth, who plays Thor, wrote “Gonna miss you mate. Absolutely heartbreaking. One of the kindest most genuine people I’ve met.”
In addition, Disney recently unveiled a beautiful mural by Nikkolas Smith designed to pay tribute to Boseman at Downtown Disney in Anaheim, California.
Boseman’s Legacy Lives On
Boseman’s legacy will continue to live on through stories of his life, such as foregoing a full salary to ensure Sienna Miller was fairly compensated for her role in 21 Bridges. Boseman will be remembered for his talent, but perhaps moreso for his generosity of spirit and soul.
