Kate Bishop Stars in a Hawkeye Short Prose Story
The new story follows Kate Bishop during the pandemic.
In “Marvel Tales: The More Things Change, The More They Stay The Same,” a prose short story from Marvel New Media on Marvel.com, Hawkeye (A.K.A. Kate Bishop) finds herself stuck inside during a pandemic and increasingly suspicious of her neighbor. And, hey, no judgment here because that’s the same way most of us spent 2020! I guess Marvel superheroes really are just like us.
A Kate Bishop Story: Hawkeye Goes Full Rear Window
Veteran Hawkeye scribe Kelly Thompson (Jem, A-Force) wrote the all-new (and all-different) story starring the one and only Kate Bishop. Posted on December 31st, 2020 – the last day of a very strange year – the Hitchcockian story is presented alongside an exclusive illustration from Stefano Caselli with lettering by Joe Sabino.
Fortunately, 2021 is shaping up to be the year of Hawkeye. You can look forward to the Disney+ series, Hawkeye, starring Jeremey Renner and Hailee Steinfeld in the fall. And of course, Jolt the golden retriever as Lucky, A.K.A. Pizza Dog (hey, every hero worth their salt in salami has to have an alias)!
But perhaps, that still isn’t enough Kate Bishop for you? Then consider reading these Marvel Comics!
1. Hawkeye (2012)
First up is Hawkeye (2012) by Matt Fraction, David Aja, Javier Pulido, Matt Hollingsworth, and Chris Eliopoulos. (This is the Hawkeye arc no one will stop talking about online.)
2012’s Hawkeye series follows both Hawkeyes (Clint Barton and Kate Bishop) in a story that begins in New York City but leads to some very distant destinations (for one of the Hawkeyes, anyway). Here’s a hint: volume three is subtitled “L.A. Woman.”
2. Hawkeye (2016)
Hawkeye (2016) by Kelly Thompson and Leonardo Romero with colors by Jordie Bellaire and lettering by Sabino is the comic that really begins to dig into Kate’s story.
In Kate Bishop’s debut solo series, the story follows the best Hawkeye as she makes her way as a super hero in Southern California. The chick who puts the hawt in Hawkeye is back with her P.I. license and bow and arrow. And she is ready to kick some tuchus in the City of Angels!
3. The West Coast Avengers (2018)
Then, in West Coast Avengers (2018) by Thompson and Caselli, with colors by Triona Farrell and letters by Joe Caramagna, Kate Bishop becomes the leader of an all-new Avengers team in Venice Beach! What could go wrong? (Answer: MODOK… or is that… BRODOK?)
What do you think of the new Hawkeye short story? Are you looking forward to seeing Steinfeld wielding the bow in the upcoming Disney+ series? Let us know in the comments!
