The Top 8 Battles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe
Well, Marvel Blog True Believers, we all know that there’s nothing like a big comic book style showdown, and nobody delivers like the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
We’ve selected our top eight MCU battles. But, what do you think of our selections? Let us know which of your favorite fights we left off the list in the comment section!
8. The Battle of New York
Coming in at number eight is the Battle of New York, as seen in the very first Avengers (2012). This important battle laid the groundwork for Phase Two (and beyond), and features a powered-up Loki fighting Earth’s Mightiest Heroes!
7. M.O.D.O.K. vs. Monica Rappaccini
In the fifth episode of Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. on Hulu, “If Bureaucracy Be… Thy Death!,” M.O.D.O.K. and Monica must form a begrudging alliance in order to wrestle control of A.I.M. away from GRUMBL…
But as you might expect, their tenuous alliance soon gives way to an all-out mad scientist battle! This fight features moves like M.O.D.O.K. being de-evolved into a monkey and Monica’s “dang shoulder” getting injured (and her “dang other soldier!”). Come for the corrosive acid vomit and stay for the cyborg manatee throw-down!
My wish for season two? M.O.D.O.K. versus Gwenpool!
6. Peter Quill vs. Ronan the Accuser
During the third act of Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 1 (2014), Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) had to stall for time during the battle with Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace).
In order to do so, Quill challenges Ronan to a dance-off, bro! Granted, what really takes Ronan out is the combined efforts of the Guardians team, who come together to wield an Infinity Stone, but it’s hard to forget Star-Lord’s dance moves.
But what if… the Guardians had actually had a dance off against Ronan? Watch this video to find out!
5. Quicksilver vs. Prison Guards
In X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014), we get an incredible scene that pits Quicksilver (Evan Peters) against the guards at the government facility where Magneto (Michael Fassbender) has been imprisoned.
When several of the guards open fire on Magneto, Quicksilver, Professor X (James McAvoy), and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Quicksilver activates his super-speed, and in a show-stopping scene set to the song “Time in a Bottle” by Jim Croce, he rescues his fellow mutants in a most unconventional showdown.
4. Jessica Jones vs. Luke Cage
In the first season of the Netflix series Jessica Jones, Jones (Krysten Ritter) has been dating Luke Cage (Mike Colter). But in the twelfth episode of the season, “AKA Take a Bloody Number,” it is revealed that Cage is under the control of Kilgrave (David Tennant).
Kilgrave unleashes Cage on Jones, and although she has super strength, it is a strenuous battle, since Cage has impenetrable skin! Jones finally incapacitates Cage with a shotgun blast to the face at point-blank range. Thanks to his powers, Cage survives, but between the high stakes and the horror of having to fight someone you love, this fight scene lingers in my memory, Marvel Blog True Believers!
3. Avengers vs. Thanos (Endgame)
In the final battle of Avengers: Endgame (2019), we got the catharsis of seeing all of our heroes return after being absent for a year (on our timeline… it was five years on theirs).
Plus, this battle gave us plenty of memorable moments, including Cap wielding Mjolnir (did the audience in your theater cheer, too), and Wanda nearly taking out Thanos herself. And speaking of Wanda…
2. The Battle of Westview
The Disney+ shows have really elevated the climactic battles, to say the least! In WandaVision’s final fight, in “The Series Finale,” we got two battles for the price of one!
First, we got to see Vision vs. Cataract Vision, which unfolded in an unexpected way.
Then, we got to see the wicked witches of Westview thrown down as Agatha fought the Scarlet Witch!
1. Classic Loki vs. Alioth
Finally, the battle that concluded the fifth episode of Loki, “Journey Into Mystery,” pitted Classic Loki (Richard E. Grant, who understands the assignment) again Alioth, an enormous smokey monster entity!
As we’re sure all of our Marvel Blog True Believers are already aware, this dazzling battle features a giant, showstopping Asgard illusion. Eat your heart out, Old Man Luke Skywalker!
