Heads Up, It’s HIT-MONKEY on Hulu!
In a video posted to YouTube on Monday, September 20th, 2021, the first teaser for Marvel’s Hit-Monkey was released! The clip includes the release date for the first season of the animated series, which will arrive for streaming on Hulu on November 17th, 2021.
An Awesome Cast
This November, fans will be able to dive into Tokyo’s underworld with Hit-Monkey. Based on Marvel Comics’ The Legend of Hit-Monkey by Daniel Way and Dalibor Talajic, the animated series follows a Japanese snow monkey who goes on a revenge quest aided by the ghost of an American assassin.
The simian-starring series features an all-star cast, including Jason Sudeikis, who is fresh off his Best Actor in a Comedy Series Emmy win for Ted Lasso, as the (literal) assassin spirit guide named Bryce.
In the article on the official Marvel Entertainment website, Bryce is described as “a terrible mentor with a sarcastic, cynical view of the world” who must “dig deep within himself in order to complete his final mission and help Monkey become who he was meant to be.”
Plus, the new animated series will also include legitimate acting legend George Takei as Shinji, an actually moral politician who is in line to be the next Prime Minister of Japan, plus Olivia Munn as Akiko, the niece of Shinji.
But perhaps most importantly, Fred Tatasciore, perhaps best known for his series-shattering performance as Lieutenant Shax, Security Officer of the Cerritos on Star Trek: Lower Decks, is voicing the role of Monkey.
Marvel Entertainment describes Monkey as the “killer of killers with a bit of a rage problem.” Throughout the series, Monkey will learn to balance his “inherently sweet nature and the evil acts he must commit” with the help of the Ghost of Bryce.
Can’t Stop Hit-Monkey
This is the second animated Marvel series to be released on Hulu.
The first was Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K., the first season of which is currently available for streaming on Hulu.
Back in February 2019, M.O.D.O.K. and Hit-Monkey were announced as part of a four-show lineup that also included two additional animated shows Tigra & Dazzler (weird team-up) and Howard the Duck. All four shows were meant to crossover in a fifth series, called The Offenders.
However, the Tigra & Dazzler and Howard the Duck shows were both subsequently cancelled, along with the team-up series. Fortunately, M.O.D.O.K. was still released (and was frankly excellent), and now it will be joined in November by Hit-Monkey.
