One Year Later, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Is Still A Hit
In an article posted to Screen Rant on Tuesday, October 5th, 2021, Thomas Bacon reported that Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. remains “incredibly popular,” a supposition supported by figures by third-party analytics firm Parrot Analytics, which suggest that S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s figures not only stand toe-to-toe with the Netflix Marvel shows, but that S.H.I.E.L.D. viewers are more likely to watch all the way through a season (until the season finale).
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. first debuted in 2013 on ABC. A spinoff of 2012’s The Avengers, the series saw the late Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) brought back to life (which happens a lot in Marvel stories… check out this recent cover for The Death of Dr. Strange by Skottie Young, Marvel Blog True Believers).
The series co-starred Chloe Bennet as Quake, Ming-Na Wen as Melinda May, and Henry Simmons as Al “Mack” MacKenzie (who becomes Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. after Coulson vacates the position). Over the course of the show’s seven seasons, there were many other important characters, including Brett Dalton as Grant Ward, Natalia Cordova-Buckley as Yo-Yo Rodriguez, and Adrianne Palicki as Mockingbird.
In many ways, the show anticipated where the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe would be heading, e.g. to space and the multiverse!
In fact, there’s even an episode of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. called “What If…” that aired during the show’s fourth season, in April 2017.
In August 2020, the series finale of the show was released on ABC. However, for some territories, Disney+ was the first time they were able to watch the conclusion of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., as the final two seasons did not air everywhere in the world.
According to the data from Parrot Analytics included in the Screen Rant article, there is still a high demand for Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which ranks alongside popular shows like Better Call Saul and Criminal Minds.
In early 2021, 984 million minutes of Criminal Minds were streamed in a single week, so if Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is now matching the popular serial killer drama, those are some mighty numbers, Marvel Blog True Believers!
Call All Agents
There are already rumors that Coulson and Quake (even if Chloe Bennet says otherwise) will be returning for more action in the MCU!
