X-Tremely Good News
In the long-ago decade of the 2000s, both X-Force and X-Statix featured the creative team of Peter Milligan, Michael Allred, and Laura Allred. Together, they told a singular story that featured a cast of off-beat superheroes (even by Marvel mutant standards). WIth a sardonic eye towards fame, fortune, and mass-media notoriety, this comic garnered a lot of attention… and also, my love.
In a quote included in the official Marvel announcement, Milligan noted that in spite of the passing years, none of the “alchemical fizz” of the trio’s creative partnership has been lost.
“Working with Peter is always a party,” Michael told Marvel.com.
And although we don’t know for certain the plot of X-Cellent #1, the cover by the Allreds offers some titillating hints at what’s in store: the return of the the former members of the X-Force team, who are truly willing to do anything to get ahead – even murder most foul!
Revenge of the DOOP
This isn’t the first time that the creators have reunited since the early 2000s, either! One example is 2014’s All-New DOOP, featuring the breakout star of X-Force, DOOP! This series was written by Milligan, featuring colors by Laura and a cover by Michael, with interior art by David LaFuente and letters by Clayton Cowles.
And if you don’t believe me about Doop being the breakout character of X-Force, check out X-Force #123 by Milligan, Allred, Allred, with letters by Doc Allred and Blambot. This wordless issue all about Dr. DOOP Pimple Popper is truly something to behold, and will immediately help you appreciate just why you should be so excited about X-Cellent!
X-Citing Stuff
Have you ever read X-Force, X-Statix, or any of the other Marvel Comics by Milligan, Allred, and Allred? What characters do you hope to see on the X-Cellent roster? Which issue featuring Doop is your very favorite?
