Disney+: X-Men ’97 Cast Announced!
One of the many extremely exciting projects that was announced during Disney+ Day 2021 was an upcoming revival of the classic 90s X-Men cartoon, X-Men ‘97! On Friday, November 12th, 2021, the official Marvel website released the cast for the new animated sequel series, which will arrive for streaming in 2023.
X-Men ‘97
The X-Men ‘97 revival will continue the story of the one of the most popular animated shows ever to feature a cast of Marvel characters (quite the claim, to be sure, but for mutant fans of a certain age, there’s simply no substitute). X-Men: The Animated Series first debuted in 1993, and X-Men ‘97 will continue to explore this era of mutant history.
While the new team may not be precisely the same as the original team, the Marvel article promises it will retain the “DNA of the original show.” To that end, there are many returning cast members: Cal Dodd, Lenore Zann, George Buza, Alison Sealy-Smith, Chris Potter, Catherine Disher, Adrian Hough, and Christopher Britton… however, it is important to note that while some of these returning cast members will return to their roles, others will be playing different characters.
Meanwhile, X-Men ‘97 will also include some new voice acting talent. This includes Jennifer Hale, Anniwaa Buachie, Ray Chase, Matthew Waterson, JP Karliak, Holly Chou, Jeff Bennett, and AJ LoCascio.
Speaking with Marvel Studios Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation Brad Winderbaum and VP of Animation at Marvel Studios Dana Vasquez-Eberhardt, the official Marvel site confirmed that the show would continue to honor the action-packed tradition of the original series.
Shouldn’t it be called X-Women ‘97?
Will you be tuning in to watch the X-Men ‘97 revival? Which mutants do you hope make the team? Have you had the chance to rewatch the original 1992 X-Men on Disney+ yet?
