Sony’s ‘Morbius’ is Now Streaming on Netflix
It was one of the most divisive and controversial comic book films of the year, as Sony’s Morbius is now streaming on Netflix.
One retrospective looks at the past year of comic book films, and it isn’t difficult to find what was maybe the biggest flop of the lot.
Now, that’s not to say that this year was a revolutionary one for comic book adaptations, as it would be unfair to speak on this film for its failure during a year when so many underperformed.
Even in the illustrious world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, highly-anticipated projects like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder were considered marginal failures.
Both films had an unprecedented amount of hype but failed to capitalize on that with any kind of engrossing, world-building, or intriguing narrative.
Still, despite all of those failures and disappointments, there is one that has stood out among those fans of Marvel comes adaptations, and that film now has a streaming home.
That’s right, Marvel fans, Sony’s Morbius is now streaming on Netflix, and provides plenty of film fans with the opportunity ti revisit the project and see if it really was as bad as people say.
When Sony set out to develop its own cinematic Universe of Spider-Man characters, there was a lot of concern.
Could an MCU based solely around one character even work? How could the dichotomy between hero and villain be gapped for such an endeavor?
In Venom, there was a slight success, but in Morbius, there was something very different that happened, as it was met with a unique reaction from internet fans.
The film was mostly disliked across the board, but at the very least it developed a very unique identity across the internet and became a sort of beacon of Meme culture.
At the very least, despite its unsuccessful release, having the film memorable for how people reacted to it seems like a feat in itself; maybe not what Sony welcomed, and possibly detrimental to their future Marvel Universe, but a feat nonetheless.
