DAREDEVIL’s Charlie Cox returning to MCU, confirms Kevin Feige
The rumors are true. Charlie Cox is back as Matt Murdock, better known as Daredevil! Kevin Feige confirmed what fans long speculated in a Sunday interview with Cinema Blend.
“If you were to see Daredevil in upcoming things, Charlie Cox, yes, would be the actor playing Daredevil,” the Marvel Studios president explained. “Where we see that, how we see that, when we see that, remains to be seen.”
As usual, Feige keeps the details close to his chest. But a Daredevil appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home, premiering on December 17th, seems like a safe bet.
Spidey’s latest movie promises the return of villains like Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus and Jamie Foxx’s Electro. Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s universes were assumed defunct until recently. Although barely acknowledged in the movies, Netflix’s Marvel shows were ostensibly part of the MCU. Incorporating those characters into future MCU projects would be less surprising than the rumored return of Maguire and Garfield.
Daredevil is my favorite Marvel superhero, so I hope he’ll become a bigger part of the MCU moving forward. Like the rest of the Defenders family of Netflix shows starring Marvel characters, Matt Murdock’s 2015-2018 series was a mixed bag. Cox is great, though, and for better or worse, MCU movies have a uniformly different tone.
Daredevil has a fun relationship with Spider-Man in the comics, so hopefully they can replicate that on screen. Another nice surprise would be a courtroom showdown with another Marvel lawyer: Jennifer Walters, better known as She-Hulk. Jen’s getting her own Disney+ show in 2022, starring Tatiana Maslany in the titular role and Mark Ruffalo returning as her cousin, Bruce Banner/Hulk.
Cox’s return suggests the potential revival of other Defenders like Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and The Punisher. I’d be fine with Iron Fist staying home, but otherwise, I’m excited for more happy returns!
