Jon Watts is the Perfect Choice to Bring the ‘Fantastic Four’ into the MCU
Spider-Man: No Way Home is the movie event of the year, and has staked its claim as one of the MCU’s greatest successes: a feat in filmmaking, it serves as the shining example as to why Jon Watts is the perfect choice to bring the Fantastic Four into the MCU.
Since Spider-Man: Homecoming, Jon Watts has had one of the toughest tasks in the entire Marvel Universe, bringing Spider-Man into the MCU.
Not only was the character rebooted from a previous franchise just two years earlier, but he was bringing with him the expectation of over 20 years of cinematic appearances and the high level of excellence expected out of the MCU.
What Jon Watts did in Spider-Man: Homecoming was formulated and executed what is one of the better Peter Parker origin stories that we have ever seen.
Spider-Man: Far From Home built on this, with a renewed focus on Peter continuing to gain confidence in himself and his journey of heroism.
All of those culminated in the incredible Spider-Man: No Way Home, which was a beautifully brutal film study on just what it means for a young, college-bound, kid to carry the burden of responsibility that comes from being Spider-Man.
All of this, his entire journey in the MCU, has proven one very important thing for the young director, Jon Watts is the perfect choice to bring the Fantastic Four into the MCU.
Watts was tabbed to direct Fantastic Four as Marvels final entry in their incredible Phase Four slate, a film that is likely to set the MCU on a brand new path into the future, and operates in the same way Iron Man did when it birthed the very MCU we know and love.
What makes Watts the perfect choice is his history with the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, excelling despite unbearable expectations.
Fantastic Four has also had two previous incarnations, both of which suffered from their own setbacks and challenges, leading to the perception that Marvel’s first family may be a very difficult task in terms of its viability as a live-action adaptation.
With these previous incarnations being perceived negatively, Watts still maintains the immense pressure that comes from that Marvel standard of excellence.
Combining the fanbase expectation that Marvel will produce something that does the comics justice, Fantastic Four is a film that should catapult the MCU into their next era, a weight that can not be taken likely for the creative team involved.
Watts, however, has proven more than capable, with Eternals sputtering because of its manic pacing and inability to focus its narrative, Watts has shown an ability to navigate that central objective in how he handled the same kind of frantic plot and multifaceted focus on Spider-Man: No Way Home.
All of this leads to the conclusion that Jon Watts is the perfect choice to bring the Fantastic Four into the MCU.
And we cannot wait to see what he has in store.
