The MCU’s Phase Four Has Found Its New Nick Fury…
One of the underrated characters in Marvel’s expanding universe, we talk about the elevation in responsibility for the current Sorceror Supreme and why the MCU’s Phase Four has found its new Nick Fury…
The beginning of the MCU as we know came with the original Iron Man; debuting in 2008, it established Tony Stark as one of the original recruits of the Avengers Initiative.
It was the individual who recruited Stark, however, who acted as the glue that brought together every Avenger, culminating in the team’s first mission in which it successfully defended the earth from the ravenous Chitari at the Battle for New York.
Nick Fury was a vital MCU character, the agent of S.H.I.E.L.D became the ultimate leader, operating from within the shadows to bring together a team of the world’s most powerful defenders.
He became the lynchpin of the entire Avengers, but with his presence now limited due to the intergalactic threat the MCU is poised to explore in the upcoming Disney+ series Secret Invasion, there is a clear role to be filled.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, may have brought to light just who could fill that role as the MCU’s Phase Four has found its new Nick Fury in the form of the current Sorceoro Supreme: Wong.
A character that survived the blip, Wong was a crucial part of the battle against Thanos and his massive army at the conclusion of Avengers: Endgame.
His reappearance in Marvel’s Phase Four has indicated a brand new Wong, with his interactions with Abomination in Shang-Chi hinting at his mission of helping superhumans better understand their current form, and helping Shang-Chi understand the vast power within the Ten Rings.
This was then confirmed during his appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which solidified him as the new Sorceror Supreme, actively chasing down and aiding in threats that arise.
He had access to Bruce Banner, and Carol Danvers, and seems to be the de facto leader after both the disappearance of Nick Fury and the death of Natasha after Avengers: Endgame.
We think the new Sorcerer Supreme is the perfect inheritor of the team-building legacy of Nick Fury, and Benedict Wong’s tremendous turn as the character should absolutely be given the role that Fury inhabited for many years.
