Things Looking Rough for Wong in Dr Strange 2
In an article posted to Movieweb on Tuesday, January 11th, 2022, a new image of Wong (Benedict Wong) from the highly anticipated sequel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, was released. Please be aware that this article will include spoilers for Spider-Man: No Way Home!
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
The image from the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness shows Wong in what appears to be serious distress.
This could be due to the fact that, as we learned in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Wong is now the Sorcerer Supreme! This occurred when Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) was Blipped at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, which means he was technically dead for five years. This made it necessary that the title passed to the next person who was most eligible to hold it: in this case, Wong.
But when Strange returned from the dead thanks to the Snap of Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) in Avengers: Endgame, Wong was not inclined to return the title of Sorcerer Supreme to the former surgeon.
This better explains why we saw Wong giving Abomination some “yard time” in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. As Sorcerer Supreme, he probably has a lot of new responsibilities… like setting the world straight after the last guy to hold the title messed all of reality up because some teenager asked him to help with a personal favor.
Wong, Sorcerer Supreme
The MCU isn’t the only universe in which Wong plays a magic user: you can also see him appear as Wallace, a necromancer, in the second season premiere of What We Do in the Shadows on FX, a series that features many other Marvelous actors (including series co-creator Taika Waititi and the always amazing Dave Bautista, among others).
