Marvel Celebrates The 60th Anniversary of Spider-Man With Brand New Variant Covers
One of the most iconic characters in the history of comics is approaching quite the birthday as Marvel celebrates the 60th anniversary of Spider-Man with brand new variant covers.
Since his inception in 1962, there has perhaps not a single comic book creation that can boast the same level of perseverance, fanfare, or continued relevance as the wall-crawler himself.
Stan Lee and Steve Ditko crafted the most cherished character in the history of the medium when they developed Spider-Man; the alias of a young boy genius named Peter Parker, who readers followed as he navigated the immense pressures of heroism, and young adult life in America.
With Spider-Man: No Way Home marking 20 years of the character’s presence on the big screen, the comic book industry is celebrating its own impressive milestone for the character, as MArvel celebrates the 60th anniversary of Spider-Man with brand new variant covers.
These brand new variant covers show off some of Marvel’s most iconic characters in designs that honor our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man for the month of April.
The covers kick off April 6th with Amazing Spider-Man #1 featuring Mary Jane as Spider-Woman; created by Romina Jones.
The month continues with the incredibly menacing and grimly beautiful work of Kyle Holtz and Alex Guimaraes Carnage #2 variant cover.
It features a symbiotic version of the character heavily inspired by the iconic Carnage design.
April 13th will feature the debut of Shang-Chi #11, showing off Rahzzah’s Spider-man-inspired Master of King-Fu.
The variant cover that features a fascinating rendition of Shang-Chi.
One of the most unique of the variant covers comes in the form of Declan Shalvey’s Spider-Man, God of Thunder cover for Thor #24; equipped with a web-spinning Mjolnir.
The final issue of that week comes in a character that this series couldn’t have overlooked.
Pete Woods’ Venom #7 core will feature the iconic lethal protector trade his usually black and white look to don a red Spider-Man-inspired suit.
The week of April 20th will start with one of the Spider-Man universe’s most iconic creations as Bengal created a brand new Cindy Moon for Silk #4.
That same week will feature Rod Reis variant cover for Silver Surfer Rebirth #4; showcasing a very cool classic Spider-Man silhouette amidst the iconic Silver Surfer design.
April 27th will kick off with Iron Man #19 showing the character in Spider-Man-themed armor, designed by Dan Jurgens, the same artist who famously created Ben Reilly’s Spider-Man suit 25 years ago.
That same week will continue the collection of variant covers with Kaare Andrews variant for Immortal X-Men #2, showing a brand new Spider-Man-inspired design for classic X-Men character, Emma Frost.
The collection will round out with David Baldeon and Israel Silva’s Captain Marvel #39 variant, featuring Carol Danvers in an iconic Spider-Man-inspired suit, equipped with a legion of Spider-Bot-inspired battleship battalion.
