Kevin Feige Calls Doctor Strange the Anchor of the MCU
After a decade-plus of establishing the biggest interconnected film franchise of all time, Marvel head Kevin Feige reportedly calls Doctor Strange the Anchor of the MCU.
Since 2008, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been crafting what is possibly the most ambitious endeavor in the history of cinema.
With the originator of Iron Man, and the subsequent establishment of Captain America and Thor, the MCU was set firmly on the path toward the Avengers; a team of superpowered human beings that each existed within their own franchise apart- yet interconnected-with one another.
Yet, the conclusion of the famed Infinity Saga saw the deaths of Iron Man, and the retirement of Captain America into a brand new life; and the MCU has entered its fourth phase with a myriad of questions as to the direction and focus of a post-Avengers existence.
It appears, however, that the architect behind the entire universe has crafted the continuing story around one character, as Kevin Feige calls Doctor Strange the anchor of the MCU.
Reported by ComicBook.com, Feige spoke at the Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony for the man responsible for bringing the character to life, Benedict Cumberbatch.
At the ceremony, the producer and Marvel executive stated, “Benedict has turned this character into an icon, appearing in a historic three of the top six films of all time.”
Feige continued, “It’s been quite a journey. I remember our very first meeting was set up as a general, and we wanted to pitch him this great character, and before we could, he said, ‘So tell me about Doctor Strange,’ because you knew.”
“Because somewhere you knew what this could be and you’ve always seen the tremendous potential in this character,” Feige continued, “Because somewhere you knew what this could be and you’ve always seen the tremendous potential in this character. ”
The veteran producer concluded by stating, “Because of that, you’ve become the anchor of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the only actor capable of guiding us through the Madness of the Multiverse.”
It is clear that Feige, and the head brass at Marvel, perceive Cumberbatch’s role as the sorcerer to have evolved into the backbone of the MCU as an entity, and we have to agree; Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness should be a truly transformative work for the MCU, and we can’t wait!
