Loki Leads as Disney+’s Most Watched Marvel Show

Last year was a tremendous year for both Marvel and Disney with the release of several MCU-connected Marvel shows. Recent data reported by The Hollywood Reporter using Nielsen data revealed that Loki is Disney+’s most-watched Marvel series.

The year 2021 saw the release of Marvel series including Wandavision, Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Loki, and Hawkeye, with Loki having the most minutes viewed of all four series, only falling to Star War’s hit series The Mandalorian in terms of minutes viewed.

Loki follows the story of a time-displaced variant of Thor’s unstable younger adopted brother. Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, in which the Avengers traveled back in time to gather the infinity stones, Loki from 2012 is allowed to escape capture with the tesseract by warping to an alternate location.

This creates a branch in the ‘sacred timeline’ alerting the attention of the Time Variance Authority (TVA) who then attempt to prune (eliminate) Loki from existence. We then follow Loki through a number of his escapades as he teams up with Detective Mobius (played by Owen Wilson) in an attempt to eliminate a variant of himself and save the timeline.

If this seems like a lot to keep up with….well it is! The series is split into 6 episodes, each running for 42-54 minutes long, encompassing a huge journey across time, and jam-packed with Loki variants galore.

Perhaps the biggest takeaway from the film is the introduction to variants and the multiverse! It is through the Loki series that we learn of the main ‘sacred’ timeline, and it is through the Loki series that the unraveling of the multiverse begins with the end of ‘He Who Remains’.

Considering all of this, it makes a great deal of sense why Loki is the most-watched Marvel series. Loki encompasses great acting, a beloved fan-favorite character, an entertaining story, and remains perhaps the most important and need to know story that directly impacts the entire fabric of the MCU.

Will anyone ever dethrone Loki’s title as the most viewed Marvel series? Moon Knight has definitely come smashing out of the gate with one of the highest premiere viewerships, tied with Falcon and The Winter Soldier yet still behind Loki. Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk are both highly anticipated shows as well that people can’t wait to see.

With Loki season 2 set to begin filming, Loki’s viewership numbers are only set to increase!
