‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ Surpasses $200 Million at the Domestic Box Office
One of the most anticipated films of the MCU’s Phase Four, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness officially surpasses $200 million at the domestic box office.
There are few contemporaries to the newly arrived Doctor Strange sequel as far as films with the level of expectation and anticipation go.
It is an adventure that has been billed as the centerpiece for the developing Phase Four, with its exploration into the developing Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Multiversal storyline acting as the bookend to one of its major focal points.
Starting with Loki, and continuing on to the record-breaking Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will take audiences deeper into the boundless unknown of the multiverse than they have ever gone before.
Promising a mind-bending adventure orchestrated by horror movie icon Sam Raimi, the film takes audiences alongside its eponymous characters defending the current MCU from unknown enemies in an adventure that is flawed, yet immensely entertaining.
With expectation at an all-time high, the film boasted a remarkable opening weekend; something that has only been added to in its first week, as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness officially surpasses $200 million at the domestic box office.
First reported by ComicBook.com, which notes that “Some analysts projected the film would achieve that number in its first three days, but it took the sequel till Monday to crack the milestone. That’s still an impressive feat.”
Its only true comparable is Spider-Man: No Way Home, which broke through almost all projected earnings and became the biggest film of the Pandemic era; becoming the first film of that time to surpass a billion.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is now the second biggest box office opener since the pandemic began; trailer behind, you guessed it, Spider-Man: No Way Home.
It will be interesting to see how the film continues from here, and how close it can come to replicating the incredible success that both Sony and Marvel achieved through the incredible Spider-Man film.
