Oscar Isaac Talks the Origin of Steven Grant’s Accent in ‘Moon Knight’
There are few Marvel projects that have been as instantly beloved as their most recent, and fewer characters who have arrived with such adoration from the fanbase; in a recent interview, Oscar Isaac talks about the origin of Steven Grant’s accent in Moon Knight.
We have been constant in our praise, and steadfast in our opinion that Moon Knight is the best series that Marvel has ever put together.
It is a combination of the riveting narrative that feels so carefully crafted, the incredible performances that are among the best on any streaming platform, and the ability to both feel present in the MCU, while also feeling entirely new.
The creative and ambitious series tackles weighty subject matter such as child abuse and mental illness, but handles them with incredible care; all the while, crafting a story that feels perfectly at home in a world where superheroes and villains battle for control of reality.
The story of Marc Spector is among Marvel’s most interesting, but the character who seemed to be far more endeared to the fanbase is easily Steven Grant; a character that came mostly from the mind of the series star, Oscar Isaac.
In a recent interview stated on the latest episode of Assembled, Oscar Isaac talked about the origin of Steven Grant’s accent, and how that character truly came to be.
Isaac stated, “I got sent some scripts of the early episodes and saw that the story had been transplanted from New York to London, but the characters were still written as American, That got me thinking, ‘Was there space there to create a character that ould be a good foil from like a mercenary or tough hero?'”
The star continued, stating, “I thought, ‘Well, since it being set in London, what if Steven’s English?’ And then I started coming up with this character around the house and doing it for my kids. My oldest son just really started falling in love with Steven and he would laugh a lot.”
Isaac concluded by noting those interactions, “made me feel like maybe there’s something here.” and there certainly was, as Steven Grant was the perfect vehicle for the series, and proved to be a fan-favorite character.
