‘Doctor Strange 2’ Concept Art Shows a Much Different Movie
It was a film that arrived following a tremendous amount of hype, to an inconsistent reception, and despite the high hopes for the film, there is no denying how it underdelivered, but with Doctor Strange 2 Concept art revealed, it shows that we almost had a much different movie.
The post Avengers: Endgame Marvel Cinematic Universe is a place of tremendous inconsistency, as these projects have arrived with a tremendous amount of hype, and- at best- mixed reviews.
Despite the massive success of a film like Spider-Man: No Way Home- a record-breaking entry that is one of the best domestic performing films of all time- there were follow-ups in the form of Thor: Love and Thunder and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
The latter may well stand as the biggest disappointment of Phase Four, as it was a film poised to build off of the multiversal narrative that was central to the entire era of the Marvel Universe; with Sam Raimi’s highly-anticipated return to the genre of comic books adaptions faltering.
With that film released digitally, and well separated from its original theatrical release, more information has arrived surrounding its development process, and one thing is very clear; Doctor Strange 2 concept art shows that we almost got a very different movie.
Released on Twitter in recent weeks, some Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness concept art pieces have been making the rounds and displaying the project that was set to release under the guidance of its previous director, Scott Derrickson.

One key difference is that Deriickson’s version of the story would focus on the villainous Nightmare and his debut in the MCU; with him focusing on torturing and taking control of Doctor Strange.
What is also apparent is how Nightmare would seek control of Strange, using the character’s traumatic experience of watching his younger sister drown when they were children; an aspect that was nowhere to be founding Raimi’s version of events.

Derrickson’s ideas worked to make Strange a more empathetic hero, and one that audiences would connect with, while Raimi’s worked to make characters like Wanda Maximoff and America Chavez more of a central focus.
There is no telling whether or not Derrickson’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness would’ve been a better film, but it seems as though he had strong ambitions for this follow-up story for the character.
