The Russo Brothers Believe ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ Can Top ‘Endgame’
Marvel Studios shocked the world earlier this year when they announced that Joe and Anthony Russo would return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
While the Russo’s have long let their affinity for the Secret Wars story be known, it seemed their time in the Marvel world had ended with the conclusion of the Infinity Saga.
Now, not only are the Russos returning, but they are also bringing Robert Downey Jr. with them.
The Russos Were Already Working With Downey
In a recent interview with GamesRadar+, the Russos discussed their reunion with Downey. As it turns out, the two parties were already collaborating on another project when Marvel came calling.
“We’re all very close,” Joe Russo explained. “We had been working on another project before Marvel approached all of us – so we’re working on another project with Robert – and there was a story that evolved through conversations that we got very excited about. Because it’s always got to be the story.”
Better Than ‘Endgame’?
When the Russos return to the MCU for the next big Avengers adventure, they know they have their work cut out for them. Still, the directors say they would not have come back if they did not believe they could top their past output.
“Why would we come back if we didn’t feel like we had a story that had that possibility of being on an equal footing with Infinity War and Endgame unless there’s a kernel there for an idea that’s really explosive?”
Considering that the Russo Brothers were behind the camera for Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame, outdoing their previous efforts is a tall task.
Still, with an iconic Marvel story to work with and Downey back in the fold, the Russos seem ready to wow fans again.
